    摘要: A fuel pump for a vehicular diesel fuel pump member having a control valve assembly which includes a housing having a control valve chamber, and an actuatable control valve disposed in the control valve chamber. The control valve includes a piston valve body axially movable over a motion displacement interval between first and second positions. The motion displacement interval is defined by first and second sub-intervals bounded by the first and second positions, respectively. The control valve assembly further includes means for actuating the control valve. A valve stop is disposed in the housing adjacent the control valve chamber, and a piston valve body seat contacts the valve stop whenever the piston valve body is in the second position. The piston valve body seat contacts a pump body seating surface whenever the piston valve body is in the first position. A first control valve spring resiliently biases the piston valve body toward the unactuated position whenever the piston valve body is in the first sub-interval. A second control valve spring resiliently biases the piston valve body into damped engagement with the valve stop whenever the piston valve body is in the second sub-interval.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine includes an engine assembly that defines a bore, and a piston disposed and moveable within the bore. The piston and the engine assembly cooperate to define a combustion chamber therebetween. A direct injection fuel system directs a fuel spray into the combustion chamber along a linear path. The combustion chamber includes a contoured surface having a plurality of annular recesses. The contoured surface divides and re-directs the fuel spray from the linear path into each of the annular recesses to form a plurality of independent rotating vortices.

    摘要: A diffuser for aiding in the vaporization and mixing of an injected reactant with the exhaust gas feed stream of an exhaust gas aftertreatment system is disclosed. The diffuser is disposed within an exhaust gas conduit of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system and has an impingement surface and a baffle plate disposed downstream of and adjacent thereto. The baffle plate extends outwardly from the diffuser, to terminate at a baffle plate tip that is located intermediate of the diffuser and an inner wall of the exhaust gas conduit. The baffle plate is operable to trap a portion of an exhaust gas feed stream, and a reactant resident therein, to increase the vaporization and residence time of the reactant in the exhaust gas feed stream.

    摘要: Improved end shapes are provided for laterally confined tappet rollers in high pressure fuel pumps and similar applications for improving lubrication and wear performance when rotating against a cylindrical surface. The roller ends are provided with annular end faces having diameters smaller than the roller diameter but spaced around the roller axis. Rotation of a roller end against a cylindrical surface provides two contact areas on opposite sides of a central plane through the axes of the roller and the cylindrical surface. The arrangements separate the surfaces between engagements with the contact areas and permit lubricant to reach the end face surfaces between contacts with the two areas. The improved tappet roller should improve service life for the fuel pumps and engine fuel systems in which they are employed.

    摘要: An electromagnetic unit fuel injector for use in a diesel engine includes a housing with a pump therein defined by an externally actuated plunger reciprocable in a bushing and defining therewith a pump chamber open at one end for the discharge of fuel to a spring biased, pressure actuated fuel injection nozzle. The pump chamber is also connected to a first chamber via a solenoid actuated, normally open, hollow pressure balanced poppet valve controlled passage to permit the ingress and egress of fuel. The first chamber adjacent to one end of the valve is in flow communication with a second chamber at the opposite end of the valve and these chambers are connected to a drain passage and supply passage, respectively. During a pump stroke, the solenoid can be energized to move the valve in position to block flow from the pump chamber to the first chamber so as to allow the pressurization of fuel by the pump to effect discharge of fuel from the injection nozzle. In a preferred embodiment the solenoid actuated poppet valve is a cartridge type assembly which is adapted to be received in a suitable socket provided for it in the housing and to be secured therein in hydraulic sealed relationship.

    摘要: An electromagnetic unit fuel injector for use in a diesel engine includes a housing with a pump therein defined by an externally actuated plunger reciprocable in a bushing and defining therewith a pump chamber open at one end for the discharge of fuel to a spring biased, pressure actuated fuel injection nozzle.     摘要: An engine assembly may include an engine structure, first and second exhaust gas conduits, a turbine and a flow control mechanism. The engine structure may define a first cylinder and first and second exhaust ports in communication with the first cylinder. The first exhaust gas conduit may be in fluid communication with the first exhaust port. The second exhaust gas conduit may be in fluid communication with the second exhaust port. The turbine may be in fluid communication with the first exhaust gas conduit. The flow control mechanism may prevent the exhaust gas from the first cylinder from flowing through the second exhaust gas conduit during a first mode and may allow the exhaust gas to flow through both the first and second exhaust gas conduits during a second mode.
