Abstract:
The invention relates to nonyl alcohols with a low degree of branching and derivatives produced using them. In particular the present invention relates to mixture of primary nonyl alcohols in which at least 80% of the alkyl chains are linear and at least 15% of the alkyl chains are branched at the 2-carbon position and its derivatives. The low degree of branching produces derivatives that are more elongated and less bulky that similar derivatives produced with more highly branched alcohols.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for preparing a branched ester, comprising reacting a branched primary alcohol composition, having from 8 to 28 carbon atoms and an average number of branches per molecule of from 0.7 to 3.0, said branching comprising methyl and ethyl branches, with an acid.In another aspect, the invention provides a process for preparing a branched ester, pour point depressants for use in fuels, and the use of a branched primary alcohol composition.
Abstract:
The invention provides a composition comprising a mixture of tridecanols wherein at least about 60 wt % of the mixture is linear tridecanol and at least about 10 wt % of the mixture is branched tridecanols wherein the branched tridecanols have branching on the second carbon atom. The mixture of tridecanols may be converted to one or more derivatives, and these derivatives may be used in laundry detergents, cleaning products or as an agricultural adjuvant, an emulsifying agent, a lubricant additive, a pour point depressant, or a personal care ingredient.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for producing vinylidene dimer derivatives, which process includes subjecting one or more vinylidene dimers to an epoxidation reaction to obtain a vinylidene-derived epoxide. In another aspect the invention provides further process for producing vinylidene dimer derivatives.
Abstract:
The invention provides a composition comprising a mixture of pentadecanols wherein at least about 60 wt % of the mixture is linear pentadecanol and at least about 10 wt % of the mixture is branched pentadecanols wherein the branched pentadecanols have branching on the second carbon atom. The mixture of pentadecanols may be converted to one or more derivatives, and these derivatives may be used in laundry detergents, cleaning products or as an agricultural adjuvant, an emulsifying agent, a lubricant additive, a pour point depressant, or a personal care ingredient.
Abstract:
The present invention therefore provides a concentrated detergent composition comprising an anionic surfactant composition containing at least one sulfate, sulfonate, carboxylate, or phosphate of a branched primary alcohol composition, having from 8 to 28 carbon atoms and an average number of branches per molecule of from 0.7 to 3.0, said branching comprising methyl and ethyl branches, or at least one sulfate, sulfonate, carboxylate, or phosphate of an alkoxylated derivative of such primary alcohol composition, wherein the concentrated detergent comprises more than 40 wt % of solid matter based on the weight of the concentrated detergent composition. In another aspect, the invention provides a process for preparing the concentrated detergent composition and the use of a branched primary alcohol composition, or an alkoxylated derivative of such primary alcohol composition to prepare a concentrated detergent composition.
