Abstract:
A composition of an oil-soluble ionic detergent that does not contribute metal ions to the composition, and which comprises a quaternary non-metallic pnictogen cation and an organic anion having at least one hydrocarbyl group of sufficient length to impart oil solubility to the detergent, the detergent having a total base number (TBN) to total acid number (TAN) ratio of at least 2:1 imparts ash-free basicity to a lubricant composition.
Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to a trunk piston engine oil composition designed for use with low sulfur distillate fuel where the lubricating oil has a low base number but is capable of providing oxidative stability, viscosity increase control, and improved detergency performance. The present invention also generally relates to a method for lubricating a trunk piston engine and a method for operating a trunk piston engine using said trunk piston engine oil composition.

Abstract:
The invention provides a composition comprising a mixture of tridecanols wherein at least about 60 wt % of the mixture is linear tridecanol and at least about 10 wt % of the mixture is branched tridecanols wherein the branched tridecanols have branching on the second carbon atom. The mixture of tridecanols may be converted to one or more derivatives, and these derivatives may be used in laundry detergents, cleaning products or as an agricultural adjuvant, an emulsifying agent, a lubricant additive, a pour point depressant, or a personal care ingredient.
Abstract:
There are provided a lubricating oil composition for a fluid dynamic bearing and a hard disk drive (HDD) motor fabricated using the same. The lubricating oil composition for a fluid dynamic bearing includes: an aliphatic mono carboxylic acid ester, as a base oil, obtained by esterification between alcohol represented by the following Chemical Formula 1; and 2-ethylbutanoic acid: where n indicates an integer of 6 to 20. Therefore, the HDD motor is fabricated by using the lubricating oil composition for a fluid dynamic bearing having low viscosity, low evaporation loss, and improved oxidation stability at room temperature, whereby quality reliability according to the use of the motor for a long period of time may be improved.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition which may contain up to 70 weight percent abrasive grit material for use with wire saw and slicing apparatus for cutting or slicing hard and brittle materials. The composition contains abrasive particles suspended in a mixture of high and low molecular weight polyalkylene glycols and a suspension agent. The viscosity of the composition is about 50 to 700 cps.
Abstract:
A lubricant including a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein 4, 5 or 6 of the substituents X.sub.1 to X.sub.6 can be --SR, --SO.sub.2 R or --SOR and the other substituents can be --H, --Cl, --F, --OH, --SH, --R, --OR, --COOR or --OOCR wherein R is independently, at each occurrence, unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, said substitution consisting of fluorine substitution of hydrogen, --O-- substitution of --CH.sub.2 --, --S-- substitution of --CH.sub.2 -- and mixtures thereof, said --O-- and --S-- substitutions being selected so that --O-- atoms are not directly bonded to each other. The invention further includes a method of lubricating with the lubricant.
Abstract:
Substituted dibenzyl aminoxyethyl sulfoxides and sulfones of the formula ##STR1## are prepared by the reaction of the appropriate dibenzylhydroxylamine compound and the appropriate vinyl sulfoxide or sulfone, said compounds being useful as color improvers and stabilizers in various polymeric substrates.
Abstract:
Hydrocarbon compositions, including oligomers and polymers, for use in improving the thermo-oxidative stability and the dispersancy and viscosity index improvement (for high molecular weight) properties of fuels and lubricating oils are disclosed. These compositions are adducts of sulfur mono- and diimides having one of the following formulae: ##STR1## wherein r is a hydrocarbyl containing at least 18 carbon atoms, in which X.dbd. can be O.dbd., S.dbd., Y'--N.dbd., i is 0 or 1, --Y and Y'-- can be ##STR2## wherein R' is hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxy, R" is hydrocarbyl, R'" and R"" are hydrocarbyloxy, and each of R', R", R'", and R"" is from 1 to 20 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Zwitterionic quaternary ammonium sulfates, and sulfonates are provided as new compounds and as highly effective additives to lubricants and liquid fuels. They have a variety of desirable effects, among them being their ability to reduce friction in an internal combustion engine, thereby reducing the amount of fuel consumed.
