    摘要: A variable cam phaser (VCP) is disclosed in various modifications. The VCP includes a piston responsive to pressure in a fluid chamber having an inlet orifice and a plurality of outlets including a first outlet and a plurality of second outlets. A valve slide is movable to cover said second outlets one after another to pressurize the fluid chamber to displace the piston against a return spring. Outer and inner splined slides are drivingly mated with an internal helical spline of a cylindrical body secured to a sprocket and an external helical spline of a stub shaft secured to a camshaft. The splined slides are disposed between the piston and the return spring. Thus, movement of the piston and splined slides assembly in response to pressurization or depressurization of the fluid chamber advances or retards the valve timing or phase angle of the camshaft relative to the sprocket.

Each of the openings is dimensioned to provide a clearance around the corresponding one of the piston pins and keep the rear gear out of contact with outer surface of the corresponding piston pin.

    摘要: A valve timing control system for an internal combustion engine is provided. This system comprises a sprocket assembly connected to a crankshaft of the engine, a camshaft assembly connected to the sprocket assembly for driving intake and/or exhaust valves of the engine, a ring gear assembly disposed between the sprocket assembly and the camshaft assembly, and a fluid power source for providing fluid pressure to a pressure chamber to axially displace the ring gear assembly to vary a phase angle relation over a range of first to second phase angles. A fluid pressure supply and drain lines are defined in the system which communicates between the fluid power source and the pressure chamber and between the pressure chamber and a drain port of the system respectively. The system further includes a solenoid operated directional control valve which is responsive to a control signal from a controller to selectively block the fluid pressure supply or drain lines according to variation in engine operating conditions for varying the valve timing.

    摘要: In a compression ignition engine employing a variable valve actuation mechanism variably adjusting an intake valve characteristic including at least one of an intake valve lift and an intake valve closure timing, a control system operates to temporarily lower an effective compression ratio of the engine by controlling the intake valve characteristic during a cranking period of cold starting operation. At a point of time when a predetermined cranking speed threshold value has been reached owing to a cranking speed rise, the effective compression ratio is risen by controlling the intake valve characteristic. After combustion of the engine has been stabilized, the intake valve characteristic is brought closer to a desired value determined based on engine operating conditions by way of closed-loop control.

    摘要: An intake- and/or exhaust-valve timing control system for internal combustion engines in which a ring gear mechanism is provided between a timing pulley and a cam shaft for adjusting the phase angle between the pulley and the cam shaft. A drive mechanism is also provided for driving the ring gear mechanism depending upon the operating state of the engine. The drive mechanism includes a hydraulic circuit having oil supply and exhaust passages, a flow control valve having a spool valve for controlling the amount of working fluid flowing through the hydraulic circuit, a controller for monitoring the operating state of the engine, and an electromagnetic actuator having a plunger rod for actuating the flow control valve in response to the control signal from the controller. The flow control valve and the actuator are integrally mounted in the cylinder head. Therefore, relative friction between the facing ends of the spool valve and the plunger rod is avoided.
