    Abstract: An FM transmitter operates at low power by maintaining a substantially constant transmit voltage over the FM frequency band. A transmit signal strength indicator (TSSI) is provided at the output of the FM transmitter to measure the power at the output of the power amplifier. The TSSI generates a power control signal indicative of the output power and inputs the power control signal to the baseband processor. The baseband processor generates gain control signals to control the gain of various analog stages of the FM transmitter based on the power control signal.

    Abstract: A method for packaging a radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) in multiple packages begins by determining a 1st position of the RFIC die in a 1st package wherein the positioning is such to minimize adverse affects of parasitic components of coupling between the radio frequency input/output section and an antenna. Once the position within the 1st package has been determined, the corresponding parasitics are measured to determine their values. The processing then continues by determining a 2nd position of the RFIC die in a 2nd package based on the values of the parasitic components. Accordingly, the 2nd position places the die within the 2nd package such that the parasitic components of coupling between the RF I/O section to the antenna within the 2nd package substantially matches the parasitic components of coupling the RFIO section to the antenna in the 1st package. Accordingly, different packages may be used with the same RFIC die, while maintaining the desired noise reduction.

    Abstract: A method for direct tuning of a radio receiver begins by providing a plurality of frequency-dependent control input signals to an input of the radio receiver. The method continues by, for each of a plurality of frequency-dependent control input signals, determining received signal strength of a current one of the plurality of frequency-dependent control input signals to produce a measured received signal strength, determining whether the measured received signal strength is within a threshold of a known signal strength of the current one of the plurality of frequency-dependent control input signals, when the measured received signal strength is not within the threshold of the known signal strength of the current one of the plurality of frequency-dependent control input signals, incrementally adjusting gain of the radio receiver by a predetermined adjustment value until the measured received signal strength is within the threshold of the known signal strength of the current one of the plurality of frequency-dependent control input signals. The method continues by determining response of the radio receiver based on the incrementally adjusting the gain of the radio when the measured received signal strength is not within the threshold of the known signal strength of the current one of the plurality of frequency-dependent control input signals to produce a determined response. The method continues by comparing the determined response with a desired response of the radio receiver. The method continues by, when the determined response compares unfavorably with the desired response, determining a response offset based on a difference between the determined response and the desired response. The method continues by adjusting response of the radio receiver based on the response offset.

    Abstract: A single ended highly linear power amplifier includes a component, a 1st transistor pair, and a 2nd transistor pair. The 1st and 2nd transistor pairs are coupled in series with the component, which may be a resistor, inductor and/or linearly loaded transistor, where the node coupling the component to the 1st and 2nd transistor pairs provides the output of the single-ended highly linear power amplifier. The 1st transistors of the 1st and 2nd transistor pairs are coupled to receive an input signal. The 2nd transistors of the 1st and 2nd transistor pairs are each coupled to receive a separate enable signal. The transistor pairs are enabled via their corresponding enable signal to change the gain of the power amplifier with negligible effects on the linearity of the power amplifier. A differential power amplifier includes the single ended power amplifier and a complimentary mirror image of the single ended power amplifier.
