A fuel injection system for a diesel engine is provided with a needle-lift-suppressing type fuel injection nozzle such as the central plunger type pintle fuel injection nozzle which has a valve needle adapted to be lifted under fuel pressure fed from a fuel injection pump to increase the effective spray area with increase in the lift of the valve needle and a needle-lift-suppressing means which limits the lift of the valve needle to a pre-lift of a predetermined amount at low load and/or low speed, and a starting detecting means for detecting starting of the engine, said needle-lift-suppressing means being arranged to permit lift of the valve needle beyond said pre-lift irrespective of the engine load and engine speed when the engine is started.

The fuel injection system for a diesel engine comprises a pintle type fuel injection nozzle having a valve needle slidable back and forth in the axial direction thereof between a first position in which its front end portion is inserted in a spray hole and a second position in which its front end portion is retracted from the spray hole, fuel supply means for feeding pressurized fuel to the fuel injection nozzle, and a plunger member which is slidable in the axial direction of the valve needle and provided with a front end face opposed to the rear end face of the valve needle and a rear end face adapted to receive the pressure of the pressurized fuel fed to the fuel injection nozzle from the fuel supply means, the valve needle being adapted to be lifted by a predetermined fuel pressure to a pre-lift position where the rear end face of the valve needle abuts against the front end face of the plunger member so that further lift of the valve needle is suppressed by the fuel pressure acting on the rear end face of the plunger member, thereby changing the valve opening pressure stepwise with change in the amount of lift of the valve. The injection system is provided with pre-lift change means for changing the amount of the pre-lift of the valve needle, an operating condition detecting means for detecting the operating condition of the engine, and a control means for controlling the pre-lift change means according to the output of the operating condition detecting means.

An internal combustion engine is provided in its exhaust system with a particulate filter for trapping combustible particulates contained in exhaust gas. A combustion promoting material injection device is provided for injecting a material for promoting combustion of the combustible particulates into the exhaust system upstream of the particulate filter. Further there are provided a bypass exhaust passage which bypasses the combustion promoting material injection device and the particulate filter, and a flow control valve which controls the amount of exhaust gas flowing through the bypass exhaust passage to control the amount of exhaust gas flowing into the particulate filter when said combustion promoting material is to be injected from the injecting device. When the combustion promoting material is injected, the flow control valve controls the amount of exhaust gas flowing into the particulate filter so that the combustion promoting material can uniformly adhere to the surface of the combustible particulates over the entire area thereof and so that the combustion temperature of the combustible particulates is prevented from rising abnormally high.

As the first and second moving members are moved in the mutually opposite directions, a moving force acting in a connector-inserting direction is applied to the male connector through the cooperative movement of the first and second moving members.

An input analog signal is sampled at a sampling frequency f.sub.s, which is four times a carrier frequency f.sub.c. A demultiplexer 11 outputs supplied data to four systems sequentially, and generates four zero carriers whose frequencies and amplitudes are equal to each other, with only the phases being different. The delay circuits 12 to 15 delay each one of the zero carriers, and supply delayed signals to adaptive filters 16 to 19. Data output from the four adaptive filters 16 to 19 are selected by a multiplexer 22, and the multiplexer 22 outputs the selected signals as a single signal. The difference between a first zero carrier and an output signals of the first adaptive filter 16 is obtained, and tap coefficients of the adaptive filters 16 to 19 are controlled in accordance with an LMS algorithm based on the difference. A signal output by the multiplexer 22 is output as a reproduced carrier.

A digital filter shown in FIG. 1 includes an extracting means 2 to extract only 2 bits at a low end of an input signal S1 and to output the extracted signal; an amplifying means 3 to amplify the extracted signal at an amplitude level to a level larger than a critical input level of an IIR digital filter 1 and output the extracted signal as amplified; and an adding means 4 to add the input signal S1 and the extracted signal S3 as amplified and input them into the IIR digital filter 1.

A connector connecting structure in which the manipulation of an operating member for effecting a fitting operation and a disconnecting operation can be effected by one motion. A pair of moving members, which are movable in a direction perpendicular to a connector-inserting direction, is mounted on a female connector. An operating member, which can be displaced between a preset position and a set position in accordance with the movement of the moving members, is mounted on the female connector. Guide grooves are formed in the moving members, and cam pins are formed on a male connector. The guide grooves and cam pins jointly constitute a cam unit. During a connector-inserting process from an insertion start position to a provisionally-fitted position, the moving members are moved by the cam grooves and cam pins of the cam unit so as to displace the operating member from the set position to the preset position, and during the connector-inserting process from the provisionally-fitted position to a completely-fitted position, the operating member is turned from the preset position to the set position so as to move the moving members through the cam unit, thereby drawing the male connector into the completely-fitted position.
