A mounting for a colorimeter enables it to make measurements of light emanating from a color monitor screen without affecting the colors produced by the screen or allowing the entry of ambient light which can affect measurements by the calorimeter. Pressure applied against a screen, especially of an LCD color monitor, can cause changes in the color of the light emanating from the screen. The mounting apparatus conforms to the screen, and seals the screen against ambient light entering into the calorimeter, while limiting the pressure against the screen. The apparatus is provided by a plate of compliant material, having an opening to which the calorimeter is attached. The surface of the plate, is disposed against the screen of the monitor. Since the pad is compliant, it seals the colorimeter from entry thereinto of ambient light. A strap can be expanded, and holds the pad on the monitor and against the screen. The strap is attached to the plate, and is placed around the back of the monitor.

A screw compressor for acoustic resonance reduction and refrigeration systems including the screw compressor are disclosed. The screw compressor has an acoustic barrier integral with the compressor housing for use with a slide valve assembly that includes a piston connected to a slide valve. A shaft connecting the slide valve and the piston passes through an aperture in the barrier with the piston and the slide valve disposed on opposite sides of the barrier. The acoustic barrier protects the piston from discharge pulses of compressed fluid exiting the rotors of the screw compressor, thus attenuating acoustic resonance, reducing compressor noise and premature wear of the slide valve assembly and compressor housing.

An apparatus and method for applying reference or grid markings to wallboard during the manufacturing process is disclosed. Reference or grid markings are applied to one sheet of cover paper at a location between the originating cover paper rolls and the cover paper creaser or creasers. This is accomplished by locating and aligning multiple print heads across the width of the continuously passing cover paper, such that markings are ejected onto the cover paper in a specific and coordinated fashion. In addition to using any suitable commercially-available computer equipment to coordinate printer head activity, this function is accomplished by attaching each print head to a common horizontal support element and provide individual adjustments that are perpendicular to, and with the directional flow of the passing cover paper.

The invention is further provides methods of preparing such pre-coated substrates and methods of analyzing biological samples immobilized on such pre-coated substrate. The substrate is coated with a polycationic polymeric coating material specifically selected such that that coated substrate exhibits increased stability and prolonged shelf-life. A surgical stapling instrument for performing a circular anastomosis stapling operation is provided. The surgical instrument includes a stapling head assembly mounted by a curved shaft to an actuator handle assembly and incorporates an improved actuator mechanism for transmitting the required operating forces and movements from the actuator handle assembly through the curved shaft to an anvil and staple driver of the stapling head assembly. The stapling head assembly includes a longitudinally movable trocar detachably secured by one or more retainer clips on a hollow shaft of the anvil. When the trocar is retracted, the anvil shaft slides into a central support tube which aligns the anvil axially and circumferentially with a staple holder on the stapling head assembly. The retainer clips are locked against the trocar by the support tube and transmit tension from the trocar to the anvil with no tension load on the anvil shaft. The actuator mechanism permits adjustment of the anvil gap to produce a desired staple height and precludes actuation of the staple head assembly if the anvil gap is set outside of a predetermined range. Also, the actuator mechanism is adapted to both advance and retract the staple driver relative to the staple holder in the stapling head assembly. Further, an improved arrangement for attaching the support shaft to the stapling head assembly and to the actuator handle assembly is provided.

A confocal imaging microscope, especially for the cellular imaging of the skin at selected locations, is ergonomic in use, compact, and positionable at the locations thereby providing for patient comfort during imaging. An imaging head (28) is gimble mounted on a multi-axis compound arm (34) to allow for precise placement of a confocal objective (116) extending from the head at selected locations against the skin of the patient while providing for patient comfort. The arm (34) attaches the head to an upright station (10) which may be movable along the floor on which the station is disposed. The station (10) has a platform (16) on which a keyboard (24) and a display (22) for monitoring the images is supported. The station (10) also supports a personal computer (PC) (26) for processing signals providing the images on the display and controlling the microscope. The head (28) contains an integrated assembly of the optical and mechanical components of the microscope. The assembly includes a main chassis plate (82). The optical components are mounted principally on one side of the plate while a PC board (130) is mounted on the opposite side of the plate. The board (130) mounts the electronic components, including interfaces, a microprocessor (222), and drivers (206, 208, 210) for motors (105, 106, 108) which control scanning and may also control fine positioning of the locations being imaged. Controls (50) for the fine positioning and focusing are on the head (28) for ease of use. The head (28) is detachable from the arm for manual disposition which is useful when imaging, not only the skin but other tissues, especially for research in investigating living processes at the cellular level.
