摘要: A delivery system and method for delivering a pulmonary artery lead into a pulmonary artery includes a delivery device having an inflatable balloon at a distal end. The device is inserted into the venous system, the balloon is inflated and the device is floated along a blood flow path within the venous system through the heart and into the pulmonary artery. The lead is delivered into the pulmonary artery using the device. In one embodiment, the device is a catheter that facilitates placement of an implantation catheter and/or a guide wire into the pulmonary artery for delivery of the lead. In another embodiment, the lead is mounted over the catheter. In yet another embodiment, the delivery device is formed at the distal end of the lead.

摘要: A delivery system and method for delivering a right ventricular lead into a right ventricle includes a delivery device having an inflatable balloon at a distal end. The device is inserted into the venous system, the balloon is inflated and the device is floated along a blood flow path within the venous system through the heart and into the pulmonary artery. The lead is delivered into the right ventricle using the device. In one embodiment, the device is a catheter that facilitates placement of a guide wire into the right ventricle for delivery of the lead. The catheter is then removed and the lead is inserted into the right ventricle over the guide wire.

摘要: A lead system, coupled to an implantable device, is configured for subcutaneous, non-intrathoracic placement relative to a patient's heart. Cardiac activity detection circuitry is coupled to the lead system and configured to detect cardiac rhythms. Disordered breathing detection circuitry is coupled to the lead system and configured to detect disordered breathing. One or both of cardiac therapy circuitry and disordered breathing therapy circuitry may be coupled to the lead system and configured to delivery therapies to treat disordered breathing. Such therapies include cardiac pacing, diaphragmatic pacing, and hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapies. A patient-external respiratory device, such as a positive airway pressure device, may be configured to deliver a disordered breathing therapy. One or more of a patient-internal drug delivery device, a patient-external drug delivery device, or a gas therapy device may be employed to treat disordered breathing.

摘要: Described herein are methods and systems for delivering pacing therapy to HF patients who do not exhibit a reduced EF. Such patients do not have systolic dysfunction and generally do not benefit from established HF therapies that either augment contractile function or counteract conduction abnormalities. In one embodiment, a HF patient with a normal EF is tested for the adequacy of heart rate response during exercise. If the patient is found to be chronotropically incompetent, a rate-adaptive pacing mode is employed in order improve functional capacity.

摘要: Systems and methods are described for classifying a cardiac rhythm. A cardiac rhythm is classified using a classification process that includes a plurality of cardiac rhythm discriminators. Each rhythm discriminator provides an independent classification of the cardiac rhythm. The classification process is modified if the modification is likely to produce enhanced classification results. The rhythm is reclassified using the modified classification process.

摘要: Devices and methods of use for introduction and implantation of an electrode as part of a minimally invasive technique. An implantable baroreflex activation system includes a control system having an implantable housing, an electrical lead, attachable to the control system, and an electrode structure. The electrode structure is near one end of the electrical lead, and includes a monopolar electrode, a backing material having an effective surface area larger than the electrode, and a releasable pivotable interface to mate with an implant tool. The electrode is configured for implantation on an outer surface of a blood vessel and the control system is programmed to deliver a baroreflex therapy via the monopolar electrode to a baroreceptor within a wall of the blood vessel.

摘要: A system and method for determining patient-specific implantable medical device programming parameters are presented. A set of physiological measures collected through a plurality of sensors monitoring physiological functions in a patient are assimilated. The physiological measures set are analyzed to identify physiological idiosyncrasies specific to the patient and to optimize the therapy to be delivered through an implantable medical device. A patient profile is formed including a plurality of programming parameters and the patient profile is preprogrammed into the implantable medical device prior to implantation in the patient.
