Abstract:
An aldehyde composition derived by hydroformylation of a transesterified seed oil and containing a mixture of formyl-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters having the following composition by weight: greater than about 10 to less than about 95 percent monoformyl, greater than about 1 to less than about 65 percent diformyl, and greater than about 0.1 to less than about 10 percent triformyl-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters, and having a diformyl to triformyl weight ratio of greater than about 5/1; preferably, greater than about 3 to less than about 20 percent saturates; and preferably, greater than about 1 to less than about 20 percent unsaturates. An alcohol composition derived by hydrogenation of the aforementioned aldehyde composition, containing a mixture of hydroxymethyl-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters having the following composition by weight: greater than about 10 to less than about 95 percent monoalcohol {mono(hydroxymethyl)}, greater than about 1 to less than about 65 percent diol {di(hydroxymethyl)}, greater than about 0.1 to less than about 10 percent triol, tri(hydroxmethyl)-substituted fatty acids or fatty acid esters; preferably greater than about 3 to less than about 35 percent saturates; and preferably, less than about 10 percent unsaturates. The alcohol composition can be converted into an oligomeric polyol for use in the manufacture of polyurethane slab stock flexible foams.
Abstract:
Polyols useful in the manufacture of polyurethanes are disclosed. The polyols are prepared by reacting a vegetable oil based (hydroxymethyl containing) monomer with a polyol, polyamine or aminoalcohol under vacuum.
Abstract:
Flexible polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate with a high equivalent weight polyol. At least a portion of the high equivalent weight polyol is a polyester containing hydroxymethyl groups. The polyester is prepared in a multi-step process from animal or vegetable fats, by recovering the constitutent fatty acids, hydroformylating carbon-carbon double bonds in the fatty acids and reducing to form hydroxymethyl groups, and then forming a polyester by reaction with an initiator compound.

Embodiments of the present disclosure include modified nonionic surfactant formulations having a nonionic surfactant and a pour point depressant, where the modified nonionic surfactant formulations have a pour point of −3° C. to −54° C. In one or more embodiments, the modified nonionic surfactant formulations can be introduced into a flow of carbon dioxide, where the flow of carbon dioxide and the modified nonionic surfactant formulation are injected into an oil containing reservoir. In one or more embodiments, an emulsion of the carbon dioxide and the nonionic surfactant form in the oil containing reservoir, where the use of the pour point depressant provides minimal interference in forming the emulsion.
Abstract:
A business method and a system that focuses on offering, coordinating, fulfilling and delivering an array of knowledge and productivity services that corporate customers require in today's context, the knowledge/business service combinations representing of mission-critical services with intellectual knowledge embodied, the fulfillment of which is done for a cluster of clients located in large commercial office buildings, government buildings or universities. The method of the invention provides for pooling of the requirements of various end users for scale-advantaged efficiencies in the processing and service delivery, and sharing such economies of scale generated with the building owners/property managers, who provide the venue from which to operate and enable such pooling to take place, and also with the tenant occupants/users, thus creating a market pull. The fulfillment of specific services is done by outsourcing to individual service providers who are established experts in their respective fields and who have virtual access to new business opportunities according to the method of the invention. The invention includes a market niche identification process and a networked processing system that delivers multiple-custom services to multiple-tenant users in multiple buildings/locations simultaneously, either directly and indirectly, and either with or without human intervention, and providing economies of scale and scope to all users, thus making it possible to offer such services at market-exchange pricing without the need for binding agreements. The processing system tracks utilization in a portfolio management style, by type of service as well as by user, for total spend-rates as well as by accrued savings, and for benchmarking purposes. The business method includes agents to facilitate targeted engagement of multi-tenant buildings from a location, size, networking, occupancy and potential point of view to build a network of multiple-buildings for even greater economies of scale and scope. The invention also includes applications related to wireless communications and choiceboards
