Abstract:
A circuit material, comprising a conductive metal layer or a dielectric circuit substrate layer and an adhesive layer disposed on the conductive metal layer or the dielectric substrate layer, wherein the adhesive comprises a poly(arylene ether) and a polybutadiene or polyisoprene polymer.
Abstract:
A circuit subassembly, comprising: a conductive layer, a dielectric layer formed from a thermosetting composition, wherein the thermosetting composition comprises, based on the total weight of the thermosetting composition a polybutadiene or polyisoprene resin, about 30 to about 70 percent by weight of a magnesium hydroxide having less than about 1000 ppm of ionic contaminants, and about 5 to about 15 percent by weight of a nitrogen-containing compound, wherein the nitrogen-containing compound comprises at least about 15 weight percent of nitrogen; and an adhesive layer disposed between and in intimate contact with the conductive layer and the dielectric layer, wherein the adhesive comprises a poly(arylene ether), wherein the circuit subassembly has a UL-94 rating of at least V-1.
Abstract:
A driver includes a boost converter, a pulse width modulator controlling the boost converter, and a timer controlling the pulse width modulator. The timer, such as a digital counter, causes the pulse width modulator to produce narrow pulses unless or until the end of a period is reached, at which point the pulse width modulator is not controlled by the timer.
Abstract:
A portable computer comprises a housing and an EL panel within the housing, positioned to emit light outwardly from the housing. The EL panel includes a plurality of EL lamps that, together, form a logo. The EL lamps can be addressed separately, enabling one to produce the appearance of motion for decorative effect or to indicate a condition of the portable computer or both.
Abstract:
A display includes a light switch overlying a backlight and having at least two light shutters which do not, by themselves, convey information by the shape thereof. The lit area of the backlight is equal to or greater than the sum of the areas of the shutters within the area. The display can also include a graphics layer overlying the light switch. The information content of the display is changed by changing the graphics layer.
Abstract:
An antenna includes an element that is made by thermally bonding a patterned conductive layer to a dielectric sheet. The antenna can be redesigned easily for prototype or low volume production yet the invention is suitable for volume production as well. The antenna, or an element thereof, can be made from a xerographic print using toner as an adhesive.

Abstract:
An EL panel includes a conductive layer that is thermally bonded to portions of the panel. A patterned rear electrode can be reconfigured easily for prototype or low volume production yet the method and apparatus are suitable for volume production as well. The rear electrode is patterned by raster scanning a localized heating element or by using toner powder as the adhesive, wherein the toner powder is patterned by xerographic printing.
Abstract:
A light guide includes a transparent sheet exhibiting total internal reflection in at least one direction and phosphor printed on the transparent sheet. The phosphor extracts light from the transparent sheet when the sheet is edge-lit and converts the light from one wavelength to another wavelength. The phosphor is pressed into the surface of the sheet after heating the surface to its softening temperature.
