摘要: A device performs a myringotomy and includes a main body, a hollow positioning member, a cutting edge for piercing a tympanic membrane, a protective sheath and an actuator. The main body is oriented along an axis and has a proximal end, a distal end and an outer surface. The main body includes an attachment hub for receiving components that provide suction. The hollow positioning member extends at least partially along the axis, is coupled to the main body and includes a distal end. The actuator is located on the main body and is configured to move the protective sheath from a first position that surrounds the cutting edge to a second position that exposes the cutting edge and from the second position back to the first position.

摘要: An ear speculum is provided for use with a standard otoscope for simultaneously viewing and removing an obstruction from a patient's ear canal. Alternative embodiments can perform like functions in other body canals. Affixed to the speculum is a guide tube through which an elongated, flexible probe may be passed into the ear canal without hindering visibility through the speculum. Various embodiments of the flexible probe function to grasp, suction, or cut obstructions within the ear canal. Additionally, the speculum may be used in conjunction with an embodiment of the probe designed to puncture a patient's eardrum and collect a sample of middle ear fluid which is subsequently released into the ear canal.

摘要: The present invention is an apparatus and method for aspirating and collecting a middle ear fluid specimen through the ear drum of a patient. Broadly, the present invention involves using a hollow needle that is adapted for puncturing through the ear drum. The hollow needle is mountable on a bulb, and the bulb is operatively adapted to draw a specimen of middle ear fluid into the hollow needle when the needle is mounted on the bulb. Such an apparatus can be made inexpensively and disposable after each use. Mounting the hollow needle on the bulb makes the present invention self-contained by eliminating the need for an external vacuum source. One possible feature of the present invention is a stop guard that is secured to the outside of the hollow needle. The stop guard is adapted to inhibit penetration of the hollow beyond a desired depth through an ear drum. That is, once the desired depth through the ear drum is reached, the stop guard provides enough resistance to further penetration that a practitioner can tell that the desired depth has been reached. Thus, with this feature, the depth of penetration through the ear drum can be determined without having to rely solely on the skill of the practitioner performing the procedure.

摘要: An extracting device for diagnosis and treatment of diseases includes a tip equipped with a one-way liquid valve; a chamber equipped with a one-way air valve; and an elastic bulb for generating suctioning-pushing pressure when it is squeezed and released. When the user squeezes and releases the elastic bulb, the liquid will be drawn into the chamber through the tip. Additional fluidal material can enter into the bulb. After the liquid or mucus is drawn out, the body function such as nasal breath can be resumed. A specimen can be taken into the chamber through the tip and then transferred to a test tube for laboratory diagnosis. A new method of obtaining and removing body secretion is provided. No any form of electricity is needed. The parts can be easily disassembled for clean for repeated uses as a mucus extractor.

摘要: A viewer for optically inspecting the interior ear cavity having a tubular body with a passage having an open end adapted to be inserted into the ear cavity and a lens in optical alignment with the passage. A light mounted on the viewer operates to illuminate the passage and interior cavity adjacent the open inner end thereof. The viewer is used with a collector to manually collect liquid samples from the ear cavity. The collector has an elongated tube associated with a plunger that is spring biased to an out position. A releasable latch holds the plunger in an in position. When the latch is disengaged from the plunger the biasing spring moves the plunger to its out position thereby drawing fluid into the tube.
