Abstract: An intervertebral implant including a non-linear bone contacting outer member having an elongate geometry. The implant further includes a support member having an elongate geometry, wherein the support member is attached to the outer member. In addition, the outer member has a bone contacting outer surface configured to contact a vertebra, wherein the geometry of the outer member provides a first distal surface region, a first proximal surface region, and a second distal surface region, wherein the first distal surface region, the first proximal surface region, and the second distal surface region are all oriented outwardly on a superior side or an inferior side of the implant, wherein the support member attaches to the outer member at a portion of the outer member that includes the first proximal surface region.

Abstract: A vertebral facet distractor includes an elongated generally cylindrical contour including a first end surface, a second end surface, an outer sidewall, an inner sidewall, and a central lumen having an opening in one of the first end surface and the second end surface. The outer sidewall may be provided with a surface irregularity, such as a screw thread. The vertebral facet distractor may further include a holder including an elongated body and a tip that extends through the opening and is engaged with the contour. The tip may be provided with a screw thread that is engaged with the contour or may engage the contour in an interference fit.

Abstract: A delivery device for inserting an interbody implant into an intervertebral space in a patient has an elongate tube with a channel and is sized to fit in an intervertebral space. The elongate tube has a proximal portion, a distal portion, a longitudinal axis, and a window with a longitudinal axis. The window is disposed adjacent the distal portion of the elongate tube and the longitudinal axis of the window is offset from the longitudinal axis of the elongate tube. The channel is sized to receive the interbody implant, and also the channel is configured such that the interbody implant is advanced therealong from the proximal region toward the distal region. The interbody implant is deployed into the intervertebral space from the window.

Abstract: An implant for use in a spine includes a body and a plurality of structural members. The plurality of structural members includes outer members that are arranged to contact a vertebra upon implantation and support members that provide reinforcement and stability to the outer members. The outer members may have sections with a generalized helical geometry. The generalized helical geometry provides distal and proximal outwardly facing surface regions and creates a series of protected fusion zones along the superior and inferior surfaces of the implant to foster adjacent bone growth.

Abstract: A surgical instrument and method are provided for removal of a spinal implant from the intervertebral disc space. The instrument includes a carriage body for interfacing with the implant, a housing for interfacing with the vertebrae, and a handle portion having a first portion rotatably coupled with a proximal end of the housing and a second portion rotatably engageable with a proximal attachment portion of the carriage body. A central passage of the housing extends between the proximal end and a distal engagement surface of the housing. The central passage is dimensioned to mate with the carriage body. Rotation of the handle portion about an axis causes translational movement of the carriage body along the axis. A modular inserter/distractor apparatus and method and an anchor remover and method are also provided.

Abstract: A system for spinal surgery includes a prosthesis comprising a plurality of bone anchors which engage an intervertebral construct for fusion or motion preservation. The fusion construct comprises a spacer optionally encircled by a jacket. The motion preservation construct may comprise an articulating disc assembly or an elastomeric disc assembly. Any of the constructs may occupy the intervertebral disc space between adjacent vertebrae after removal of an intervertebral disc. The anchors slidingly engage the construct to securely fix the prosthesis to the vertebrae. The anchors and jacket of the fusion construct provide a continuous load path across opposite sides of the prosthesis so as to resist antagonistic motions of the spine.

Abstract: The invention relates to an intervertebral fusion implant for fusing two adjacent vertebrae (9, 9′), comprising a base piece (2) and a top piece (3) which in each case are designed to come to rest against a facing end plate (92) of one of the adjacent vertebrae (9, 9′), wherein the top piece (3) is vertically adjustable relative to the base piece (2), wherein a ratchet device (4), which effects a vertical adjustment in steps and secures a set height against reversion, is provided between the base piece (2) and the top piece (3). Thus a defined expansion can be achieved which is dependent upon the number of actuations. Precise control over the state of expansion is enabled in a purely haptic manner. Furthermore, implantation instruments are provided which are configured as parallel spreaders and have a stop as spreading path limiter or co-operating force and path measuring device. Thus it can be implanted more reliably, wherein the risk of overloading or injury to the vertebrae and the nerves and ligaments of the vertebrae is decreased.

Abstract: Injection-molded devices and systems for graft or other tissue delivery, methods for their single-use in delivery of an implant, and kits for their sterile delivery to a practitioner are disclosed herein. Systems for implant delivery comprise an injection moldable implant body and an insertion device comprising: an inner and outer shaft that form a locking mechanism that secures an implant body in place and releases it upon placement within a patient. Systems are configured to be manufactured by injection molding, such that they can be cost-effectively manufactured and discarded after a single use to avoid costs and risks associated with re-sterilization and cleaning, but can in some cases optionally also be manufactured by machining to be re-sterilized and reused.
