摘要: An implant suitable for being anchored with the aid of mechanical vibration in an opening provided in bone tissue. The implant is compressible in the direction of a compression axis under local enlargement of a distance between a peripheral implant surface and the compression axis. The implant includes a coupling-in face which serves for coupling a compressing force and the mechanical vibrations into the implant, which coupling-in face is not parallel to the compression axis. The implant also includes a thermoplastic material which, in areas of the local distance enlargement, forms at least a part of the peripheral surface of the implant.

摘要: A cement restrictor device adapted for use in a hip replacement operation, which device comprises: a raised cap-like upper element defining a cavity therein, the upper element having a continuous solid upper surface, the lower edge of the element adjoined to a peripheral lid element extending outwardly from the lower edge thereof, the lower crown portion of the cap-like element generally adjacent to the adjoinment to the lid element characterized by a plurality of peripheral passages therein to permit the passage of a cement material therethrough, whereby the upper element may be inserted into a hole in a bone of about the size of the upper element and cement applied to the interior cavity and forced through the passageway so as to lock the device between the lid element and the cement into the hole in the bone.

摘要: Devices for implantation within a Functional Spinal Unit (FSU) that can provide up to six independent degrees of freedom from a neutral position are provided. Such devices can comprise two endplates, a nucleus, a sled, and an optional, elastic boot attached to the endplates and enclosing the contents of the device, namely, the nucleus. The sled on one end of the nucleus can be moveably attached to one of the endplates and a spherical cap affixed to the opposite end of the nucleus can be operably engaged with the other endplate. The endplates can provide outer surface features that allow fusion of the plates to the superior and inferior vertebrae of a FSU and can prevent expulsion of the device immediately after implanting. The nucleus can have compliant elements or can be rigid. It can comprise a tripartite construction of three elements of possibly different materials that can be fitted together, or it can be a single unified element or can be a material with graded mechanical moduli axially and radially. The endplates and nucleus can maintain connection through the sled and the extension of the central core. Additionally, one or more specialized rotational joint stops can be utilized to provide profile-closure of the spherical joint between the top endplate and the spherical cap.

摘要: An implant suitable for being anchored with the aid of mechanical vibration in an opening provided in bone tissue. 摘要: The present invention relates to a method and a device for alleviating and/or preventing conditions relating to damaged joints involving articulating surfaces. In a first aspect the present invention relates to a prosthetic device for insertion into a joint cavity of a joint of a vertebrate, such as a human, said device consisting of a biocompatible material comprising at least a first polymeric component and a second polymeric component, wherein the chain length of the first polymeric component is longer than the chain length of the second polymeric component, the polymeric components in particular being polyethylene, polypropylene and/or polyvinylpyrrolidone. The device may be used for establishing sidability and/or distributing pressure in a joint of a vertebrate such as a human, by inserting into the joint cavity of the joint a prosthetic device, preferably a prosthetic device as defined in this invention, capable of locking itself to an intra-articular component and thereby being fixed or retained in the joint cavity in a manner which is substantially non-invasive with respect to cartilage and bone natively present in the joint cavity. The device may be formed by moulding, whereby it is possible to adapt the form of the device to the joint needing alleviation. Also the device may be formed with a hole or a slit to fit into the joint and lock the device around intra-articular components. A further aspect of invention relates to a method for introducing the prosthetic device into a joint, such as a method comprising locking the device to an intro-articular component, thereby fixing or retaining the device in the joint cavity in a manner which is substantially non-invasive with respect to cartilage and bone natively present in the joint cavity. Also the invention relates to an instrument for inserting a prosthetic device according to the invention, comprising means for deforming the prosthetic device into a reduced volume or a slender shape and means for grasping the intra-articular component to which the device is capable of interlocking.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method and a device for alleviating and/or preventing conditions relating to damaged joints involving articulating surfaces. 摘要: An implantable orthopedic prosthesis. A prosthetic component includes a wall having a first surface for engaging bone and a second surface. The wall defines a hole therethrough extending from the second surface to the first surface. A plug is removably disposed in the hole. The plug includes a peripheral rim spring-biased radially outwardly in frictional engagement with the sidewall of the hole. The plug is useful for occluding the hole to alleviate the risk of polyethylene wear particles migrating through an unused hole into contact with bone.
