摘要: Asymmetric films, methods of making asymmetric films, and uses of asymmetric films. A method may include using at least two different solvents and at least one homopolymer and at least one block copolymer that can undergo self assembly, where the solvents are immiscible and have different surface tension, where, on film formation, all or substantially all of the block copolymer(s) migrate to an exterior surface of the homopolymer. The asymmetric films may include an isoporous region or layer and an asymmetric region or layer, where the asymmetric region does not include 10 percent by weight or more of the multiblock copolymer(s) and/or the isoporous region/layer and the asymmetric pore region/layer are not independently (or separately) formed and/or not laminated together to form the asymmetric film. The films can be used in devices, such as, for example, filtration devices.

摘要: A carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membrane may advantageously be made by pyrolyzing a membrane precursor composition comprised of a carbon forming polymer (e.g., polyimide) blended with a polyvinylidene chloride copolymer (PVDC), the polyvinylidene chloride copolymer being the reaction product of at least 60% to 97% by weight of vinylidene chloride and at least one other comonomer and the carbon forming polymer to polyvinylidene chloride copolymer has a weight ratio of greater than 1 to 99. The membrane precursor composition may be formed by dissolving the carbon forming polymer and PVDC in a solvent to form a dope solution. The dope solution may be shaped, for example, into an asymmetric hollow fiber. The asymmetric hollow fiber may be heated to a temperature to dehydrochorinate the PVDC and then subsequently heated in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to carbonize the polymers of the shaped membrane to form the CMS membrane.

摘要: Composite hollow fiber gas separation membranes with improved permeance and separation layer adhesion are manufactured by providing dipping a hollow fiber membrane substrate in a pre-coat layer coating composition followed by drying to thereby provide a pre-coated substrate and dipping the pre-coated substrate in a separation layer coating composition followed by drying to thereby provide the composite hollow fiber gas separation membranes. The pre-coating composition includes a first polymer dissolved in a first solvent and the separation layer composition includes a second polymer dissolved in a second solvent. The first and second polymers are the same or different, each of the first and second polymers is at least 1 wt % soluble in a same third solvent, the first and second solvents are the same or different, the first and third solvents are the same or different, and the second and third solvent are the same or different.

摘要: A bi-layered superhydrophobic membrane includes top and base layers formed from polypropylene. The bi-layered superhydrophobic membrane can have a thickness ranging from about 100 μm to about 1 mm. When subjected to oil-water emulsion separations, the superhydrophobic membrane can achieve an organic solvent flux of 14,000 Lm−2h−1 with a 96% water rejection. The bi-layered superhydrophobic membrane can be effectively used for water filtration, providing both selectivity and permeability, while offering an eco-friendly solution for reuse of polypropylene plastic waste.

摘要: The present invention provides a nonwoven fabric for a separation membrane which can prevent a bleed-through of a resin solution used for coating in a step of producing the separation membrane, can produce a separation membrane having a large permeate flux of a liquid by non-solvent induced phase separation, has high adhesiveness between a coating membrane and the nonwoven fabric, and can make the coating membrane thin, and a method of producing the same. In an exemplary aspect of the present invention, a two-layer nonwoven fabric 10 for a separation membrane is configured to have a surface layer 11 and a back surface layer 12, a coating surface of a coating solution during membrane formation is a surface 11a of the surface layer 11, and, when the nonwoven fabric 10 is impregnated with the coating solution for membrane formation, the surface layer 11 has a large Laplace force and the back surface layer 12 has a small Laplace force. The nonwoven fabric 10 for a separation membrane can be produced by sequentially papermaking a fiber dispersion liquid DS1 for a surface layer including one or more kinds of fine fibers FF having a small fiber diameter and one or more kinds of thick fibers TF having a fiber diameter larger than that of the fine fibers FF and a fiber dispersion liquid DS2 for a back surface layer consisting of the thick fibers TF using a wet papermaking method.
