摘要: A dual-pathway system for CO2 capture in both acidified and basified streams is provided. The system may be embodied in an off-shore stand-alone facility to allow for the operation of oceanic CO2 capture to be more efficient and cost effective. Systems maintain high environmental standards by containing all intermediate acidic and alkaline solutions in a closed system so that the effluent discharged back into the ocean is at the similar pH and salinity as the feed oceanwater, with only CO2 removed. Acid and base produced by an electrodialyzer unit is used to achieve oceanwater decarbonization via gaseous CO2 removal and solid CaCO3 precipitates removal. The system is configured to require the processing of a very small fraction of the total oceanwater intake for the acid-base generation process.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to carbon nanotube based desalination membranes and methods of manufacturing thereof. The carbon nanotube based desalination membranes may be manufactured by: providing a polymer matrix; providing carbon nanotubes directly contacting the polymer matrix; stirring the carbon nanotubes into the polymer matrix in order to make a carbon nanotube composite solution; and coating a substrate with the carbon nanotube composite solution to form a carbon nanotube desalination membrane. The carbon nanotube based desalination membranes may provide superior flow rate and high levels of salt rejection.

摘要: An electrospun polymer nanofibrous membrane that provides high filtering efficiency and excellent porosity is disclosed herein. The membrane may be treated with one or more antimicrobial or antiviral agents. The treatment may preferably be a coating of one or more antiviral agents on the surface of the membrane. Alternatively, one or more antiviral agents may be impregnated into the membrane. The membrane may additionally or alternatively be impregnated with one or more metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The membrane has a high filtering efficiency and sufficient porosity to provide breathability characteristics. In some embodiments, the membrane is suitable for use in making facemasks and respirators that are highly resistant to infectious pathogens and/or other small particulates. In some embodiments, the membrane is suitable for use in HVAC applications. In some embodiments, the membrane is suitable for use in removal of VOCs and CO2 in conjunction with a carbon nanofiber membrane.

摘要: A filtration device containing a porous polyparaxylylene (PPX) filtration article is provided. The PPX filtration article includes at least one PPX polymer membrane layer and one or more substrate. Optionally, the PPX filtration article may include one or more support layer(s). The PPX polymer membrane has a pore size from about 1 nm to about 100 nm. The filtration article has a PVA_20 less than about 0.6 cm3/m2 and/or a mass/area (MPA) less than about 30 g/m2. The PPX filtration article separates and retains nanoparticles from a feed fluid with high permeability. In use, the PPX filtration article filters nanoparticles from a feed flow by passing the feed fluid through at least one PPX polymer membrane within the filtration article where the nanoparticles are separated and removed from the feed fluid. The PPX polymer membranes may be resistant to chemical attack, gamma radiation, and are thermally stable, biocompatible, and strong.
