摘要: Disclosed is a gas-induced reactor which mainly includes a tank body without inner baffles and a draft tube with inner baffles mounted in the tank body. An upper and a lower turbines are installed in series on a shaft of said tank body and enclosed by the draft tube. The turbines each have six 45.degree. pitched, rectangular, flat blades. When the two turbines rotate at high speed to agitate gas and liquid in the draft tube, a downward regular gas vortex is formed at a center of liquid surface in the tank body above the draft tube. The regular gas vortex is pulled inward to the draft tube and is disturbed by the baffles in the draft tube to become an irregular gas vortex in the draft tube. The irregular gas vortex is broken by the rotating turbines into bubbles which are angularly distributed out of the draft tube and into liquid in the tank body. The gas vortex formed by the rotating turbines in the draft tube create a gas-induction phenomenon which may increase the length of gas flow paths and the numbers of gas circulation in the tank body by inducing gas escaped from the liquid surface back into the liquid. The gas utilization ratio is therefore largely increased in the gas-induced reactor.

摘要: A flotation cell for separating hydrophobic particles from a mixture of particles and liquid. The cell includes a first inlet through which the mixture is provided into the cell and a second inlet through which a flow of gas is provided into the cell creating bubbles of the gas in the mixture. The cell is characterized in that the second inlet is designed to create a counter pressure for the flow of gas when entering through the second inlet.

摘要: A fermentation process uses substantially pure oxygen as the sole gas introduced into a fermentation vessel while fermentation reactions are active. The oxygen is introduced at multiple locations along the height of the vessel, and is preferably introduced in the vicinity of the blades of an impeller. The invention enhances the rate at which oxygen can be transferred to the fermentation medium, and is especially useful for fermentation media which become very viscous as the process continues. The invention can be used in the manufacture of viscous products such as xanthan gum, or other products having viscosities greater than about 100 cp.

摘要: Embodiments of a remediation reactor and mixer/contactor blade for the reactor are shown and described, the reactor being for containing a liquid slurry, suspension or settled bed of solid particles containing microorganisms. Inside the vessel is a supply conduit and at least one generally horizontal stirrer blade in fluid connection with the supply conduit. The stirrer blade is a mixer/contactor which has a leading side having openings through which fluid may pass. The stirrer blade rotates in the vessel, and this rotation is made easier by the hydraulic forces of fluid flowing out from the stirrer blade. The flowing fluid creates a fluidization zone in the slurry, suspension or settled bed at or near the leading edge of the stirrer blade. The fluidization zone is less dense than the rest of the sediment bed, and the stirrer blade tends to rotate into the fluidization zone. This way, controlled rotation of the stirrer blade may be created near the bottom of the vessel, enhancing mixing of the microorganisms with the slurry, suspension or settled bed in the vessel, without unnecessarily damaging the microorganisms, especially when the flowing fluid contains contaminants which are nutrients for the microorganisms. Also, shown and described is a vessel which incorporates a mixing blade through which a gas and/or a liquid is recirculated. The mixing blade is rotated through a sand layer or other settled bed of solid particles, which acts as a medium supporting microbial growth and/or as a filter to remove particulate matter from the vessel effluent which is drawn off from below the settled bed layer. Fluid recirculation aids in the fluidization of the filter medium and allows for intermittent operation with a significant reduction in energy and operating costs. The vessel may be operated as an aerobic bioreactor by recirculating air or as an anaerobic bioreactor by recirculating an inert gas.

摘要: The rotary surface aeration device used to rotate and aerate sewage is provided with a carrying part connected to a vertically running drive axle. A plurality of liquid transporting units also fastened to the carrying part.In order to improve the oxygen input, the liquid transporting units, which are adjacent to each other viewed in the circumferential direction of the rotary aerating device, have different jet exiting speeds. This is achieved by giving the scoop outlet edges of these liquid transporting units, which are adjacent to each other, a different distance (d, d') from the drive axle of the rotary aeration device. The liquid transporting units are arranged and constructed in such a way that the liquid jets of at least two liquid transporting units, which are adjacent viewed in the circumferential direction of the rotary aeration device, exiting from said units during the operation of the rotary aeration device strike each other before reentering into the liquid to be aerated.

摘要: A device for destratifying bodies of water for controlling water quality parameters. The device includes an elongated hollow shroud within a cylindrical pipe that is capable of being supported in a vertical position within the body of water. The shroud is mounted on a center hollow drive shaft. A reactive propulsion driven rotary arm disposed in the plenum of the shroud is driven by pressurized fluid. Within the pipe, but outside of and near the lower end of the shroud's drive shaft, an impeller forces water upwardly and axially around the shroud to the water's surface. The reactive propulsion means is preferably driven by pumped air, whereby the effect of the pressurized air rotates the arm and the impeller fixed to the common drive shaft. This action aids in destratifying the body of water. A series of guide vane blades may be interposed on the same drive shaft between the impeller and the shroud to reduce the turbulence of the water exiting from the impeller.

摘要: An aspirator includes a plurality aspirator tubes, each preferably extending at approximately 70 degrees from a central axis and including a fin extending a limited distance below the aspirator tube outlet. The design improves mixing and gas contact, yet has reduced power requirements, by using a plurality of debris-shedding, finned aspirator tubes to inject approximately 35% more air than the best prior art designs at the same rotational speed. Further, the aspirator of the present invention improves motor life by reducing the average current draw on the motor. The aspirator is useful in many applications, including sewage and wastewater treatment, oxygenation, fermentation, aeration, hydrogenation, oxidation, and oil-sand separation.
