Abstract:
The present invention provides a system for printing on balloons where the priming of the balloons to receive print is substantially free of bubbles, the system comprising locally applying to a balloon external surface or to a balloon precursor sheet in a defined, limited area one of: a) a pre-shaped self adhesive label comprising a layer of primer that is adhesive-backed; b) a coating of primer that will be formed into the external surface area of a balloon wherein the remaining external surface area of the balloon is coated with a primer repellent material; c) a coating of primer by a silk screen process wherein the applied primer is subjected to a partial vacuum to draw air out from the coating and/or is subjected to the action of a roller or scraper that is held or pressed lightly against the coating to squeeze air from the coating.

Abstract:
A method of improving lamination consistency across a media substrate is provided. The method includes providing a media substrate having at least one ink-receptive (unprinted) surface and subjecting the ink-receptive surface to plasma treatment to create at least one treated surface of the media substrate.
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for treating a polyolefin surface to become receptive to inks and adhesives is disclosed. The present invention provides a method of and apparatus for treating a polyolefin surface to become receptive to inks and adhesives, using the steps of introducing the shaped object onto a conveyor belt; conveying the shaped object towards an output end of the conveyor belt; aligning and guiding the shaped object across a treatment device to treat the entire 360.degree. surface of the shaped object. The treatment device includes, for example, an electrode spark generator.
Abstract:
A screen printing process for providing long-lasting, visually-appealing images on PVC sheet material such PVC venetian blind slats, through use of a computer hardware and CAD/CAM and computer color-matching software. The process, which is for ink-printing the outer surface of a siliconeless PVC sheet (preferably a blind slat) inside a work room, comprises the following steps: (a) purging the atmosphere of the work room from substantially all airborne silicone particles and maintaining the purged atmosphere at a positive pressure relative to air pressure; (b) heating the slat for a duration and at a temperature level sufficient to fully ink prime the slat outer surface; (c) oxydizing the primed slat outer surface; (d) screen coating the slat outer surface with an ink, this ink being of the type curable under the action of an ultra-violet radiation; and (e) curing the ink-coated slat by submitting the latter to an electromagnetic radiation at a radiation intensity and duration sufficient to completely set the ink onto the slat outer surface; wherein the ink-coated slat outer surface becomes highly scratch-resistant.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process including, as steps a) provision of a sheetlike composite (200) including, as mutually superposed layers, from an external surface (201) of the sheetlike composite to an internal surface (202) of the sheetlike composite, i) a carrier layer, ii) a barrier layer, and iii) a polymeric internal layer, wherein the sheetlike composite (200) has a first electrical charge; b) provision of a first component (300) including a first component surface (301), wherein the first component surface (301) includes a plurality of recesses (302), wherein the recesses (302) include a composition (303) including a colourant, wherein the first component (300) moves in a first direction (304), wherein the first component (300) has a further electrical charge; c) increase of the absolute magnitude of the difference between the first electrical charge and the further electrical charge; and d) bringing the external surface (201) of the sheetlike composite into contact with the first component surface (301). The invention further relates to a printed sheetlike composite; to a container precursor, and also to a container, in each case including the printed sheetlike composite; to a device (500) for the printing of a sheetlike composite; and to a use of the device for the printing of a sheetlike composite.
