    摘要: A method of enhancing hydrophilicity of a hydrophobic polymer material includes pre-treating the hydrophobic polymer material, comprising treating the hydrophobic polymer material with a first atmospheric pressure plasma discharge in a first atmosphere. The first atmosphere includes ammonia to obtain a pre-treated polymer material. The method includes treating the pre-treated polymer material with a second atmospheric pressure plasma discharge in a second atmosphere in which an aerosol of a carboxylic acid is introduced. A substrate is provided as well, the substrate including a hydrophobic polymer material having a modified interface, wherein the modified interface includes carboxylic functional groups grafted on the hydrophobic polymer material, the modified interface having a contact angle with water, which, measured after immersion in water at 20° C. for 3 days, is at least 25° less than a contact angle with water of the hydrophobic polymer material.

    摘要: The invention relates to a method for hydrophilizing surfaces of polymer workpieces. The method has a step (a) of pretreating the workpiece surfaces in a high-frequency gas plasma which is produced on the basis of an inert gas in order to clean and activate the workpiece surfaces; a step (b) of precoating the pretreated workpiece surfaces with polyacrylic acid using a high-frequency gas plasma made of a gas mixture, said gas mixture being composed of an inert gas and a first gas made of biocompatible, polymerizable carboxy group-containing monomers; and a step (c) of subsequently coating the precoated workpiece surfaces using a second gas substantially containing acrylic acid monomers.

    摘要: A process for applying an overlayer to a cured thermoset molding composition is provided that includes exposing the cured thermoset molding composition to a plasma under conditions that modify the surface energy of a surface of the article without visually modifying the surface. The surface of the article is then overcoated with an overlayer having superior adhesion to a like article absent the intermediate plasma treatment. A component is also provided that is cured thermoset resin article having a shape and a surface. An overlayer is applied to the surface while the surface is still plasma activated. The overlayer is adhesion is unchanged by 4 weeks in a 100% humidity chamber at 30° C. over at least 95 area % of an interface between the overlayer and the surface.
