    摘要: High purity aluminum oxide is produced by continuously reacting high purity metallic aluminum, either solid or liquid, with high purity oxygen, present in stoichiometrically excessive amount, within a vertically oriented cylindrical vessel closed at the top and open at the bottom and having cooled side walls on which there forms a layer of solid aluminum oxide. Newly formed aluminum oxide deposits as a liquid film on the inside surface of this layer and flows downwardly thereover by gravity to the open bottom of the container and thence falls to a collecting vessel below, solidifying either during this fall or after impingement on a moving metallic surface. An annular array of burners, e.g. oxy-hydrogen burners, limits downward growth of the layer below the vessel, prevents closing off by growth of that layer of the space within the vessel, and fosters detachment of the downwardly flowing film in the form of drops to fall to the collection vessel.

    摘要: Herein disclosed is alumina powder incorporated into a composition which should have excellent heat conduction and used as a heat-radiating member and for sealing a semiconductor. The spherical α-alumina powder has an average sphericity of not less than 0.93 and a content of α-crystalline form is not less than 95% and the spherical α-alumina powder is prepared according to the method, which comprises the steps of: (1) softening metallic aluminum powder or alumina powder through the treatment with a flame; (2) solidifying the softened powder by passing the same through a zone maintained at a temperature ranging from 800 to 500° C.; (3) increasing the content of α-phase by passing the solidified powder through a zone maintained at a temperature ranging from 950 to 1,500° C.; and (4) collecting the resulting powdery product while cooling the same.

Where the RE-doped alumina nanowires are to be used as catalyst supports, a catalyst material, such as platinum, may be deposited as small particles on the nanowires.

    摘要: A minute metal powder is obtained by a method which comprises melting a metal, imparting ultrasonic vibration to the resulting melt, introducing an inert or reducing gas into the ultrasonically vibrated melt thereby producing minute bubbles therein, allowing cavitation to occur as soon as the bubbles reach the surface of the melt and consequently convert the melt into minute droplets, exposing or not exposing the minute droplets to oxygen, nitrogen, or propane, and solidifying the minute droplets by cooling. An apparatus for working the method described above comprises a metal melting tank, metal feeding means, gas feeding means, an ultrasonic vibration generator, means for detecting and retaining the surface of melt, and means for converting melt into minute droplets and solidifying the minute droplets by cooling.
