Unless explicitly specified, polyols are understood to be polyether polyols, polyether ester polyols and also polyether ester amide polyols. Disclosed is an improvement to a polyether preparation process that includes a coalescing step. Amine-initiated polyethers prepared using a mixed alkylene oxide feed tend to coalesce significantly more slowly than glycerin-initiated polyethers, particularly in processes that include a holding step and/or elevated temperature following an initial alkoxylation to form a pre-polymer. This improvement is to perform a remedial end-capping of the pre-polymer, which may include amine degradation products, using an alkylene oxide which contains at least (3) carbons, prior to the molecular weight-building alkoxylation with the mixed alkylene oxide feed. The rate and performance of coalescing thereafter may be substantially enhanced.

Polymers reactive towards free amino groups, such as polyamides, polyureas, polyurethanes or polyesters, are provided with durable modified properties by being brought into contact with an additive polymeric material which (a) is compatible with the polymer being treated, (b) contains a plurality of oxyalkylene groups effective to impart to the modified polymer improved properties such as reduced static propensity, modified dyeability, or greater water absorbency; and (c) has one or more reactive sites, in the form of a pendant free primary amino group or potential primary amino group, blocked by the dehydration of an aldehyde or a ketone with the amine, which in either case affords the capability in proper circumstances of attaching the modifying polymeric material to the polymer being treated by a covalent chemical bond. Suitable modifying polymers are made by reacting a diamino or higher amino compound with a proportion of an aldehyde or ketone sufficient to block at least some of the amino groups present, oxyalkylating the blocked starting material through a surviving amino group to an extent capable of affording the desired properties, and if desired, cross-linking or chain-extending the resulting material to obtain a substance of increased molecular weight. Modifying polymers so made may be used as such (i.e., in the aldehyde- or ketone-blocked form) for treatment of the reactable polymer to be modified, either by blending into a melt or by surface treatment of freshly produced fiber or sheet material. The formation of free amino groups in the modifying polymer can occur in situ when the modified polymer is exposed to water under suitable conditions. The modifying polymer may also be used in a free amino form generated by hydrolyzing before bringing it into contact with the polymer to be modified. Novel treated polymers are thus produced which display modified properties which are retained despite repeated washings and/or long-continued use.

A heat curable composition comprises (1) an epoxy- or epithio-alkylester of 3,4-dihydro-1,2-pyran-2-carboxylic acid and (2) and amine containing at least two N-H bonds. Specified esters are glycidyl 3,4-dihydro-1,2-pyran-2-carboxylate and 2,3 - epithiopropyl - 3,4 - dihydro - 1,2 - pyran - 2 carboxylate. Preferred amines are aromatic, aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic. The two components are mixed, either with or without solvent. Suitable concentrations of amine are 0.8 to 1.5 equivalents per equivalent of heterocyclic compound. Suitable additives are fillers, dyes, plasticizers, stabilizers, vinyl resins, pitches, distillate oils and alkyd resins. Resinification is achieved by heating at 90 to 250 DEG C., optionally in the presence of accelerators or catalysts. The examples describe the preparation of cured compositions from glycidyl-3,4-dihydro-1,2-pyran-2-carboxylate and (1) meta-phenylene diamine; (3) triethylenetetramine, (4) 1,3-diaminocyclohexane; (5) 1,3-diamino-(methyl)cyclohexane; (6) di-(hexamethylene)triamine; (7) meta - xylylene diamine; and (2) from 2,3-epithio-propyl-3,4-dihydro - 2 - pyran - 2 - carboxylate and metaphenylene diamene. Uses:-laminates, adhesives, mouldings, surface coatings.

The present invention relates to anhydrous tetraalkyl pnictogen perfluoroalkoxy salts and a process to produce anhydrous tetraalkyl pnictogen perfluoroalkoxy salts. The process involves contacting a hydrofluoroether and an amine to produce a tetraalkyl pnictogen perfluoroalkoxy salt in the presence of a solvent. The present invention also relates to processes of preparing fluoroalkyl ether acid fluoride polymers using tetraalkyl pnictogen perfluoroalkoxy salt. The present invention further relates to some novel fluorinated alkyl polyether polymers.
