The invention further relates to a method of producing these metallic effect pigments, and to their use.
Abstract:
A method of encapsulating pigment flakes with a metal oxide coating is provided. According to the method, pigment flakes are mixed with a solvent, a metal salt is added to the solvent, and a reducing agent is added to the solvent, so as to encapsulate the pigment flakes with a metal oxide coating.
Abstract:
A process of forming a multi-layered pigment includes the steps of: providing a metal core material; dispersing the metal core material in a first solvent and organic binder mixture; depositing a high refractive index material onto the metal core material; drying the deposited high refractive index and metal core material wherein the high refractive index layer is uniform and crack-free.
Abstract:
The invention relates to effect pigments having an aluminum core or aluminum alloy core and an aluminum oxide-containing or aluminum oxide/hydroxide-containing layer enveloping said aluminum core or aluminum alloy core, obtained by chemical wet-process oxidation of lamellar aluminum pigments or aluminum alloy pigments, the content of metallic aluminum in the aluminum core or aluminum alloy core being not more than 90% by weight, based on the total weight of the pigment, wherein the oxidized aluminum pigments or aluminum alloy pigments exhibit at least one highly refractive metal chalcogenide layer having a refractive index of >1.95, and a mixed layer is formed between the highly refractive metal chalcogenide layer and the enveloping aluminum oxide-containing or aluminum oxide/hydroxide-containing layer. The invention further relates to a process for the production of such effect pigments and to the use thereof.
Abstract:
Use of luster pigments based on a platelet-shaped metallic substrate coated with a low refractive dielectric layer which does not absorb visible light, for pigmenting macromolecular materials.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of producing coloured carrier particles (substrates), which comprises a) dispersing the carrier particles in a solution of a colorant or latent pigment, adding the carrier particles to a solution of a colorant or latent pigment, or adding a latent pigment or a colorant to a dispersion of the carrier particles, b) precipitating the colorant or latent pigment onto the carrier particles, and c) in the case of a latent pigment, subsequently converting it to the pigment, and to the coloured substrates obtainable by such a method, and also to the use thereof. Using the methods according to the invention it is possible to obtain colorations and coloured substrates that have surprisingly good light-fastness properties.
Abstract:
Interference pigment flakes and foils are provided which have color shifting properties. The pigment flakes can have a symmetrical coating structure on opposing sides of a reflector layer, can have an asymmetrical coating structure with all of the layers on one side of the reflector layer, or can be formed with encapsulating coatings around a core reflector layer. The coating structure of the flakes and foils includes a reflector layer, a dielectric layer on the reflector layer, and a titanium-containing absorber layer on the dielectric layer. The pigment flakes and foils exhibit a discrete color shift so as to have a first color at a first angle of incident light or viewing and a second color different from the first color at a second angle of incident light or viewing. The pigment flakes can be interspersed into liquid media such as paints or inks to produce colorant compositions for subsequent application to objects or papers. The foils can be laminated to various objects or can be formed on a carrier substrate.
