The curable compound according to an embodiment of the present invention includes the following characteristics (a) to (e). (b) Proportion of a structure derived from an aromatic ring in the total amount of the curable compound: 50 wt. % or greater. (c) Solvent solubility at 25° C.: 1 g/100 g or greater. (d) Glass transition temperature: 280° C. or lower. (e) 5% Weight loss temperature (Td5) measured at a rate of temperature increase of 10° C./min (in nitrogen), for a cured product of the curable compound: 300° C. or higher.

An object of the present invention is to provide an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive composition capable of forming a pressure-sensitive adhesive, which has excellent adhesiveness to an adherend having surface polarity of every kind and can exhibit excellent repulsion resistance even in a moist heat environment, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive sheet using the composition. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition provided by the present invention contains a copolymerization reaction product of a monomer mixture. The monomer mixture contains an alkyl (meth)acrylate having an alkyl group with a carbon number of from 4 to 20 and N-vinylcaprolactam. The total sum amount thereof is 95% by mass or more of the whole of monomer components. An amount of N-vinylcaprolactam is from 12 to 40% by mass.

Substituted N - vinyl - 2 - pyrrolidones mentioned are 3-methyl-, 4-methyl, 3,3-dimethyl, 4-ethyl, 5-methyl, 5-ethyl. Monomers suitable for making copolymers are allyl alcohol, diallyl phthalate, isobutyl vinyl ether, maleic anhydride, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, acrylic acid, vinyl laurate, vinyl stearate. A number of specific monomer combinations are listed. Many suitable phenols are mentioned. The mixtures of polymer and phenol are sometimes soluble in solvents which do not dissolve the polymer alone, e.g. hydrocarbons, ketones, halogenated hydrocarbons or dioxane. The compositions are used for coatings on metal, glass, wood, paper, polyethylene, &c., as inks, as adhesives, e.g. for laminating, as plasticizers, e.g. for polyethylene, or for sizing siliceous materials, e.g. glass fibres.

A description is given of a pressure-sensitive adhesive dispersion comprising a water-dispersed polymer P1 formed by emulsion polymerization. The polymer P1 is formed from a monomer mixture comprising (a) at least 40% by weight of C4 to C20 alkyl (meth)acrylates which when polymerized as homopolymers have a glass transition temperature of −30° C. or less, (b) at least 0.05% by weight of (meth)acrylate monomers having a substituent of the formula where X is CH2, O, NH or NR and R is a C1 to C4 alkyl group, (c) at least 0.1% by weight of acid monomers. The monomer mixture comprises alternatively at least 0.05% by weight of glycidyl (meth)acrylate and/or the pressure-sensitive adhesive dispersion comprises at least one further polymer P2 which contains glycidyl groups.
