    摘要: An activating rinse for treating a substrate is disclosed. The activating rinse comprises a first component comprising a dispersion of divalent or trivalent metal phosphate particles having an average particle size that is not greater than 10 μm, and a second component comprising first and second copolymers. The first copolymer is formed by the polymerization of ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, or combinations thereof, wherein one end of the first copolymer is terminated by an amine group, a hydroxyl group, or an alkyl group. The second copolymer is formed by the polymerization of styrene and a second monomer containing at least one carboxylate group, anhydride group, or combinations thereof. The second monomer is present in an amount of less than 50 percent by weight of the total weight of the second component. Also disclosed are methods for treating a substrate with the activating rinse and substrates treated with the activating rinse.

    摘要: A method of treating a surface of a metal foil or sheet to make the surface wettable. The method comprises obtaining a metal foil or sheet having an oil-coated surface to be treated, applying a solution of phosphoric acid in a polar, non-aqueous, water-free solvent evenly to the surface at a rate of application in a range of at least 10 mg/ft2, the phosphoric acid being contained in the solution at a concentration such that the phosphoric acid contacts the surface in an amount of 0.5 to 2.0 mg/ft2; and removing the solvent by either drying the surface or heating the foil or sheet at an elevated temperature above ambient to evaporate the oil from the surface to be treated with the proviso that the elevated temperature does not fall in the range between 130 to 240° C. The resulting foil has a wettable surface and can be used, for example, for coating with a layer of another material (e.g. polymer or adhesive) and achieve high peel strength.

Alternatively, the method may include dipping the electronic device at least once in a mixture of a polar organic solvent and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) or phosphate derivatives thereof in a low percentage amount (e.g., with a phosphate reactant such as orthophosphoric acid or even R—HxPOy, where R is an alkaline type of ion group or an alkyl radical). The thin film may be formed on top of a thin layer of native aluminum oxide hydrate Al2O3.xH2O.

Two components are prepared in which the first is a metal salt dissolved in alcohol, and the second component is phosphorous pentoxide dissolved in alcohol. The two components are mixed and may be applied as a liquid coating to a variety of substrates. The coated substrate is then heated, causing removal of all other components and leaving a layer of pure metal phosphate.
