Abstract:
A tire having a radial carcass reinforcement, having at least one layer of reinforcing elements, said tire comprising a crown reinforcement, which is itself covered radially with a tread, said tread being joined to two beads via two sidewalls, wherein at least 90% of the reinforcing elements of at least one layer of the carcass reinforcement are non-wrapped metal cords having in what is called the permeability test a flow rate of less than 20 cm3/min, wherein at least 1% of the reinforcing elements of said at least one layer of the carcass reinforcement are capillary tubes and wherein, in a plane of section perpendicular to the axis of the capillary tube, the ratio of the open area to the area of material is greater than 0.4%.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a tire having a radial carcass reinforcement, consisting of at least one layer of metal reinforcing elements, said tire including a top reinforcement, which is covered radially with a tread, said tread being joined to two beads via two sidewalls. According to the invention, the reinforcing elements of at least one carcass reinforcement layer are metal cables which, in the so-called permeability test, have a flow rate less than 20 cm3/mn and at least 10% of said metal cables are banded by a strand consisting of multifilament textile fibers.
Abstract:
Method of manufacturing a tire comprising a carcass reinforcement extending between beads, this carcass reinforcement being anchored in each bead by being wrapped around each circumferential bead reinforcement to form a turned-back portion, this carcass reinforcement comprising at least one rubber ply which is reinforced with a plurality of metal cords of low or zero permeability, each bead comprising a plurality of rubber-based strips, at least one of these strips, known as the bead rubber strip, radially on the outside of the circumferential bead reinforcement performing a function of filling and mechanical connection between the carcass reinforcement and its turned-back portion, this bead rubber strip comprising a first surface axially towards the inside in contact with the carcass reinforcement and a second surface axially towards the outside, each bead further comprising at least one other strip, known as the filler strip which, radially on the outside of the radially outermost points of the turned-back portion of the carcass reinforcement is at least partly in contact with part of the second surface of the bead rubber strip to form a region of contact between the said two profiled elements this method comprising a step of forming a plurality of grooves on at least one of the surfaces of the strips that are in contact in the contact region, these grooves being distant from one another by at least a distance equal to 5 mm, and these first surface of the bead rubber strip being completely devoid of any groove.
Abstract:
A steel cord for reinforcing rubber articles in which sheath wires are not deviated and which has an excellent rubber penetration property and a tire which has an excellent durability using the steel cord is provided.A steel cord for reinforcing rubber articles composed of a core 10 composed of two untwisted steel wires 1 and six sheath wires 2 which are twisted around the core 10 is disclosed. The average of gap distances between the adjacent sheath wires 2 is 24 μm or larger, and the occupancy of the sheath wires 6 disposed around the core 10 with respect to a sheath wire disposition area is 80% or larger. A pneumatic tire in which the steel cord is applied on both a carcass and (a) belt layer(s) or applied on either the carcass or the belt layer(s) is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A composite comprising a steel cords-covering rubber composition and a rubber composition which is contiguous thereto and contains a thiazole type vulcanization accelerator, at least one of these rubber compositions containing a m-cresol resin whereby they can be cured without decreasing the resulting strength of bond therebetween even after they have been left uncured in contact with each other for a considerable time.
Abstract:
A rubber composition containing reinforcing pigment some of which is preferably silica pigment, sulfur, a vulcanization accelerator, litharge, and a cobalt salt, when coated on brass plated steel cords and vulcanized, adheres tenaciously and permanently to the cords, without the erratic adhesion previously obtained or loss of adhesion in humid atmospheres. A further improvement in adhesion is obtained by including a resorcinol resin in the composition.
Abstract:
In a tire cord fabric, especially one comprising a multiplicity of parallel steel cords, an improvement is provided whereby the various sources of supply of the tire cords may be identified. In a preferred embodiment, the improvement comprises the substitution of at least one pair of modified steel cords, for example spirally wrapped steel cords, for an equal number of regular steel cords with the spirally wrapped cords being spaced from each other by a particular number of the regular cords for each cord manufacturer. For example, a spacing of 10 regular cords between a pair of special cords may represent manufacturer A, while a spacing of 12 regular cords between a pair of special cords may represent manufacturer B, etc. Thus, each of several sources of supply of the regular cords may be identified according to the number of regular cords between a pair of special cords. This abstract is not to be taken either as a complete exposition or as a limitation of the present invention, however, the full nature and extent of the invention being discernible only by reference to and from the entire disclosure.
Abstract:
A tire reinforcing structure in the form of a plurality of assemblies each formed by hinge or hook connected rigid elements at least partially embodied within the tire rubber.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire having substantially the same width near the tread as near the beads is provided with sidewalls each comprising two distinct portions. A first portion of each sidewall, occupying most of the radial sidewall height, extends radially inwardly from the tread and slopes axially outwardly. This portion has a meridian profile that is substantially straight. A second portion of each sidewall extends from the radially inner edge of the first portion to the bead and has a meridian profile that is strongly curved.
