摘要: A method of forming a thermal barrier coating onto a surface of a ferrous alloy or nickel alloy component part involves depositing a layer of hollow microspheres to a surface of the component part or to a previously deposited layer of hollow microspheres through heating and cooling of a metallic precursor setting layer composed of copper, a copper alloy, or a nickel alloy. Once deposited in place, the layer(s) of hollow microspheres are heated to sinter the hollow microspheres to each other and to the surface of the ferrous alloy or nickel alloy component part to form an insulating layer.

The method (400) includes depositing a layer of nickel-based gamma/gamma prime chemistry (112) on the tip (106) of the aerofoil (100). The method (400) further includes depositing plurality of abrasive particles (114) on the layer of nickel-based gamma/gamma prime chemistry (112) to form a coating matrix (116). The method (400) further includes heating the tip (106) of the aerofoil (100) at a predetermined temperature in order to perform heat treatment of the coating matrix (116) and increase the strength of the coating (110) on the tip (106) of the aerofoil (100).

摘要: A thermal barrier coated metallic article includes a platinum-group metal enriched outer layer on the article. The surface of the outer layer has a microstructure including a plurality of projections extending away from the metallic article. A thin adherent layer of oxide is formed on the outer layer of the metallic article. A ceramic coating is provided on the oxide layer on the surface on and around the projections. The ceramic coating includes a plurality of columnar ceramic grains which extend through the full thickness of the ceramic coating. The grains are arranged in clusters separated by gaps. The grains deposited around the projections are generally blocked. The projections reduce the stress in the ceramic coating near the interface with the adherent layer of oxide and also reduce the stress in the adherent layer of oxide and hence increase the working life of the thermal barrier coating system.

摘要: A coating system for a surface of a superalloy component is provided. The coating system includes a MCrAlY coating on the surface of the superalloy component, where M is Ni, Fe, Co, or a combination thereof. The MCrAlY coating generally has a higher chromium content than the superalloy component. The MCrAlY coating also includes a platinum-group metal aluminide diffusion layer. The MCrAlY coating includes Re, Ta, or a mixture thereof. Methods are also provided for forming a coating system on a surface of a superalloy component.

摘要: A method of using a masking device to mask a portion of a gas turbine engine component for an electroplating process is provided. The masking device includes a main body having sidewalls, a removeable coverplate having an end plate and one or more locking tabs, a fastener located at least partially within the main body, and a shank engaged with the fastener. The method includes placing the gas turbine engine component through an opening in the main body such that the component is held within the main body by a retention slot. The method includes sliding the one or more locking tabs of the removeable coverplate through the opening in the main body such that the removeable coverplate covers the opening of the main body. The method includes securing the one or more locking tabs in one or more relief slots in the sidewalls of the main body.

摘要: An electrodeposited nickel-chromium-aluminum (Ni—Cr—Al) composite including nickel-chromium alloy and aluminum, and alloys or compounds formed by Al, Cr and Ni applied on turbine components comprises from 2 to 50 wt % chromium, from 0.1 to 6 wt % aluminum, and a remaining balance of nickel, wherein the Ni—Cr—Al composite is heat-treated to form an aluminum compound and to restore materials lost during repair processes of the turbine components.
