摘要: A novel image development method and apparatus are disclosed, whereby image-wise charging of a toner layer is accomplished by induce air breakdown electrical discharge such that free mobile ions are introduced in the vicinity of an electrostatic latent image coated with a layer of developing material. The latent image causes the free mobile ions to flow in an image-wise ion stream corresponding to the latent image, which, in turn, leads to image-wise charging of the toner layer, such that the toner layer itself becomes the latent image carrier. The latent image carrying toner layer is subsequently developed and transferred to a copy substrate to produce an output document.

摘要: An image forming apparatus in accordance with the present invention is provided with a unit composed of members such as a photoreceptor drum and an optical system, the unit being attachably and detachably provided with respect to the image forming apparatus main body. With the arrangement, the replacement of the photoreceptor drum can be made at the user's end with ease. It is not necessary to carry out fine adjustments at the user's end for positioning the photoreceptor drum and optical system with respect to the image forming apparatus main body. Thus, professional skill is not required for the replacement of the photoreceptor drum, thereby resulting in that the operations such as maintenance can be effectively made. It is preferable that a cleaner is further provided for removing any contaminated materials adhering to the inner surface of the photoreceptor drum. With the cleaner, the contaminated materials can be removed from the inner surface of the photoreceptor drum, thereby avoiding that the exposure of the photoreceptor drum is not appropriately carried out.

摘要: An electrophotographic process in which image information exposure step and a developing step are substantially simultaneously carried out to opposite sides of a photosensitive member includes preparing an electrophotographic photosensitive member having a conductive base layer transmitting light and a photosensitive layer thereon; exposing the conductive base side of the photosensitive member to light information; rubbing an opposite side of the photosensitive member with a developer supplied with a developing bias voltage of the same polarity as the polarity of the developer in a region including an upstream side end a downstream side of an image exposure region of the photosensitive member; wherein an absolute value of a sum of a triboelectric charge potential provided on a surface of the photosensitive member by rubbing between the developer and the photosensitive member, and a surface potential of the photosensitive member provided by application of the developing bias upstream of the image exposure region, is larger than an absolute value of the developing bias.

摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus for producing an image on the image receiving member. The method and apparatus employ a photoconductive member that is charged by the deposition of charged marking particles on an outer surface thereof. Subsequently, selective regions of the photoconductor are selectively exposed to light patterns to cause the photoconductor to exhibit a photoresponse, thereby collapsing the internal electric field in the exposed regions but not in the unexposed regions. When a field neutralizing bias and acoustic energy are applied in a transfer region, toner in the unexposed regions is transferred to an intermediate member or any substrate interposed between the photoconductive surface and the biasing electrode.

摘要: An image forming apparatus is capable of forming a good image without a color shade and a dropped color by coating uniformly photosensitive toner particles on a supporting member. The image forming apparatus includes a coating amount detecting unit for detecting an amount of the photosensitive toner particles coated on the supporting member, in the vicinity of a coating unit. Therefore, the image forming apparatus can determined whether a required amount of the photosensitive toner particles is coated on the supporting member, or not. When a required amount of the photosensitive toner particles is coated on the supporting member, an exposure operation is executed. When there is a part on the supporting member which is not coated with enough photosensitive toner particles, the coating unit is operated again. This processing is repeated until the whole of the supporting member is coated with the enough photosensitive toner particles. After this, the exposure operation is executed.

摘要: A photoconductive image forming apparatus in which charged photoconductive toner contacts a transparent insulating substrate and is exposed from within the substrate. Exposure reduces the resistivity of the toner so that its charge can be reversed by a bias voltage and the exposed toner will adhere to the image forming substrate simultaneously with exposure and then transfer to a transfer medium. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, a layer of toner is applied to an electroconductive substrate and the toner layer is exposed with a latent image. The charge of the exposed toner is reversed and the exposed toner is removed by an intermediate toner removal device. The remaining toner is then transferred to a transfer medium. Toner suitable for use includes azo-type metal containing black dyes which do not absorb the exposure and can be sensitized to the near infrared region. Multicolor toners, each sensitized to a different exposure wavelength are provided so that a single multiple wavelength exposure and a single development can be used to form multicolor images.

摘要: A compact and simple structured electrophotographic printing apparatus having a single magnetic developer, in which an accumulation of toner particles is formed on a photosensitive member at a downstream position from the magnetic developer. The accumulation of the toner particles is formed by moving a photosensitive film and a magnetic brush in rubbing contact with the film in mutually opposite directions, or by deforming a magnetic field generated by the magnetic developer, using a magnetic piece. A recording electrode is disposed on a sleeve of the magnetic developer and facing the photosensitive film. Bias voltages, having polarities opposite to each other with respect to the photosensitive film, are respectively applied to the recording electrode and the sleeve. An optical beam is projected onto the photosensitive film in a region facing the recording electrode. Thus, with the aid of toner particles located between the recording electrode and the photosensitive film and the accumulation of the toner particles, sensitizing, developing and scavenging are carried out simultaneously, and thus a toner image is produced on the photosensitive film. For a magnetic developer having a rotatable sleeve, a specially designed recording electrode is disclosed. The photosensitve member may be in the form of a solid flat plane, a drum, or a flexible belt-like film.
