The control apparatus includes a detection unit and a control unit. The detection unit detects whether a recording medium loaded in the storage apparatus is a stand-alone-only recording medium that is used in a stand-alone mode. When the recording medium is the stand-alone-only recording medium, the control unit registers a physical volume of the stand-alone-only recording medium as a logical volume and automatically switches the operation mode of the control apparatus to the stand-alone mode.

    摘要: In at least one embodiment, an apparatus for writing data and location marks on an optical tape is provided. The apparatus comprises an optical system that includes at least one laser source for transmitting a laser beam therefrom. The optical system further includes a plurality of lenses for receiving the laser beam and for directing the laser beam onto at least one guard band on the optical tape to write the location marks thereon. The location marks being indicative of a longitudinal position of the data that is capable of being stored on a writeable section of the optical tape.

    摘要: Write protection for data of a rewritable data storage cartridge having partitions is provided in certain circumstances by providing logical write protection; and in response to detection of an application issuing at least one partition-based command with respect to the rewritable data storage cartridge, the logical write protection is disabled with respect to the detected application. Thus, where the cartridge has a non-default index addressing location, in response to detection of an application issuing at least one command initially addressing a location other than the non-default index location, logical write protection is enabled with respect to the detected application; and if the non-default index location is addressed, the logical write protection is disabled.

    摘要: The present invention provides: a write retry method which reduces the number of permanent errors; and a magnetic tape apparatus in which the method is implemented. In a write control method of the present invention, at least one dataset is written into a space of a predetermined distance in a lengthwise direction of a tape medium. A write ERP of the present invention can reduce occurrence of permanent errors before time-out, thereby having an advantageous effect of reducing the number of unnecessary requests for exchange of tape cartridges.

    摘要: A picture signal recording/reproducing apparatus is disclosed in which a CPU 11 records the identification information for discriminating the video cassette during picture recording on a magnetic tape, while recording the recording information indicating the recording contents, such as the still picture data for program scenes, in memories 13 and 14 in association with the identification information. During reproduction, the CPU 11 reads out still picture data of each program from the memories 13 and 14, while a digital signal processing circuit 15 converts the still picture data of each program as a multi-picture into analog signals which are outputted to a TV receiver via an analog signal processing circuit 23 and an output terminal 33. The result is that the scenes of plural programs recorded in each of plural video cassettes are displayed on the TV receiver. This permits the user to easily recognize the program recorded on the video cassettes and to reproduce the desired program or to record a program in an optimum video cassette.

    摘要: In a recording/reproducing apparatus and a reproducing apparatus based on a helical scan system for recording or reproducing a video signal and an audio signal on or from a magnetic tape by use of a magnetic head assembly mounted on a rotary drum, the recording/reproduction of an audio signal in both a standard play mode with a tape speed equal to a standard speed and a long play mode or N-ple play mode with a tape speed N times (N: an integer not smaller than 4) as high as the standard speed is performed by a common audio head. At the time of reproduction in the N-ple play mode, the optimum tracking control is performed by a tracking control system by use of an output of the audio head. At the time of completion of recording in the N-ple play mode, a video signal is supplied with a time prolonged corresponding to the delay of scan of a video head from that of the audio head so that a video track is surely overwritten on an audio track. A high-speed fast feed/rewind speed at the time of N-ple play mode is set to a low value as compared with the tape speed at the time of standard play mode, thereby ensuring the detection of an index signal from the magnetic tape in the N-ple play mode.
