At least one noise harmonic within the signal may be filtered based on said analyzed spectral content. The filtered signal may be limited. The noise profile may comprise a phase noise profile. The signal may comprise at least one of a sinusoidal signal and a noise signal. At least one filter coefficient that is used to filter said at least one noise harmonic may be determined. The filtering may comprise low pass filtering and the limiting may comprise hard-limiting the filtered signal. The signal may be modulated prior to the filtering. The signal may be downconverted prior to the modulating. At least one signal component of the signal may be downconverted.

    摘要: A phase modulator faithfully reproduces higher frequency modulation using an offset phase-locked loop (OPLL) without passing excessive noise through an increased bandwidth of the OPLL. A quadrature modulator modulates information from a baseband signal onto a passband IF signal and, after a limiter strips away amplitude variations, the OPLL reproduces the phase modulation on an RF signal. The OPLL introduces a group delay that does not vary linearly with the modulation frequency and that consequently causes distortion when uncompensated. A baseband filter filters the amplitude of the baseband signal and introduces a complementary group delay that compensates for the OPLL group delay and results in a combined group delay of the baseband filter, quadrature modulator, limiter and OPLL that remains substantially constant as modulation frequency varies. Compensating for the OPLL group delay reduces distortion and the spectral energy at offset frequencies from the carrier frequency of the RF signal.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for direct-conversion transmission generates a first frequency signal that is non-harmonically related to a transmit frequency signal, divides the first frequency signal to obtain a mixing frequency signal, divides the first frequency signal to obtain an intermediate frequency reference signal, generates the transmit frequency signal by using the mixing frequency signal to downconvert the transmit frequency signal into an intermediate frequency feedback signal, and phase-locks the intermediate frequency feedback signal to the intermediate frequency reference signal. The transmit frequency signal may be phase modulated, and may serve as an input to a saturated-mode power amplifier that can be configured for corresponding amplitude modulation. Alternatively, the un-modulated transmit frequency signal serves as the carrier signal input to a quadrature modulator, which imparts I/Q modulations to it, thereby producing a modulated carrier signal for input to a linear power amplifier.

    摘要: A transmission arrangement includes a step-up frequency mixer that converts a modulation signal to a transmission frequency. The step-up frequency mixer is arranged within a phase locked loop that further comprises a frequency divider that is likewise supplied with the modulation data, combined with channel pre-selection data, for the purposes of compensation. This arrangement prevents low-frequency components of the modulation signal from being eliminated by the phase locked loop. In addition, noise components and undesirable interference frequency components that are produced in the mixer are suppressed by the phase locked loop.

    摘要: A transmitter for a wireless handset having a modified translation loop architecture. The transmitter includes a VCO that generates a modulated transmit signal having a frequency fTx, and a modulated signal source that generates a modulated LO signal with a frequency fLO. A mixer mixes the transmit signal with the LO signal to produce an IF signal having a frequency fIF. A first divider divides the LO signal frequency fLO by an integer M to generate a first comparison signal having a frequency fCF. A second divider divides the IF signal frequency fIF, after it is multiplied by an integer K, by an integer N to generate a second comparison signal having a frequency fCF. The transmit and LO signal frequencies have the relationship f Tx = f LO ⁢ KM ± N M . A phase detector coupled to the first and second comparison signals compares the phases of the signals and outputs a control voltage to the VCO proportional to any phase differences between the signals.

The output of the converter device is connected to a second input of the digital phase comparator.A GSM transmitter which has such a modulation closed loop exhibits, in terms of its out-band noise and interference characteristics, significantly improved properties in comparison with a GSM transmitter which does not include a modulation loop.

      摘要: A transmitter architecture (200) provides for a stable and low noise modulator where the modulation bandwidth is uncorrelated to the TX loop bandwidth. The output signal (228) of the TX loop is demodulated by a demodulator (208) and the demodulated signal is compared by a comparator (206) with the modulating input signal (202). The output of the comparator is then used to adjust a digital pre-emphasis filter (204) which preconditions the modulating input signal (202) in the digital domain. The preconditioning approach of the present invention provides for low noise because the transmitter designer can chose a narrow band for the TX loop which will also filter out the noise coming from the additional synthesizer (226) used to down convert the input signal.
