    摘要: A multiport amplifier MPA is provided with an N-input input network, INET, an N-output output network, ONET, and N amplifiers interposed between the INET and the ONET, the MPA comprising N wanted signal paths and N·(N−1) null signal paths wherein N is divisible by 2, half of the N amplifier paths comprise a signal inversion with respect to the other half of the N amplifier paths, the INET and the ONET each comprise one or more quadrature hybrid couplers, QHC, wherein a pair of amplifier paths is arranged between the output of a first QHC in the INET and the input of a second QHC at the ONET, and each signal inversion is arranged in one of the amplifier paths of each pair of amplifier paths such that the ideal amplitude gain of at least one of the N·(N−i) null signal paths is zero.

    摘要: Described embodiments provide a transmission-line resistance compression network that includes an input port, a first output port coupled to a first load and a second output port coupled to a second load. The first and second loads may have substantially similar input impedances under substantially similar operating conditions. The transmission-line resistance compression network includes a transmission-line network coupled to the input port, the first output port and the second output port, and includes at least two transmission lines of different lengths. For a first operating range, the resistances at input ports of the first and second loads vary over first and second ratios, respectively. The resistance of the input impedance at the input port of the transmission-line resistance compression network varies over a third ratio that is smaller than at least one of the first and second ratios.

    摘要: A multi-stage Doherty power amplifier (“PA”) circuit which achieves superior efficiency over broadband range of frequencies is disclosed. Conventional multi-stage amplifiers may offer potential for efficiency enhancement but may suffer from cost penalties and severe bandwidth limitation in practice. Embodiments may employ a driver in the peaking arm which is biased in class C which may alleviate such limitations. The amplifier topology and associated circuitry described in embodiments may achieve high efficiency, smooth PA gain, and enhanced phase characteristics over a 15% fractional bandwidth with reduced costs.

    摘要: There is disclosed a method of determining an AM-PM distortion measurement for an amplifier, the method comprising: generating a test waveform to be provided to the input of the amplifier; periodically puncturing the test waveform with a fixed-level reference signal to generate a modified test waveform which alternates between test periods in which a portion of the test waveform is present and reference periods in which the fixed-level reference signal is present; measuring the amplifier AM-PM distortion in a test period; measuring the phase difference between the input and the output of the amplifier in reference periods either side of the test period; estimating a phase error in the test period in dependence on phase differences measured in the reference periods; and estimating the true amplifier AM-PM distortion by removing the estimated phase error from the measured amplifier AM-PM distortion.

    摘要: An unbalanced linear power amplifier (PA) is disclosed having a quadrature coupler with a 90° phase input port, a 0° phase input port, an output termination port, and a signal output port. Each of the 90° phase input port, the 0° phase input port, the output termination port, and the signal output port have a characteristic resistance (Ro). Also included is a first PA having an output coupled to a 90° phase input port of the quadrature coupler and a second PA having an output coupled to a 0° phase input port of the quadrature coupler. Biasing circuitry provides the first PA and the second PA with a similar gain. A tuning network is coupled between the output termination port and ground. The tuning network has an isolation resistance in series with an isolation inductance, wherein the isolation resistance is between about 0.02*Ro Ω and 0.8*Ro Ω.
