The system uses an analog to digital converter for digitizing an analog cyclically varying input signal derived from a patient in response to a sampling clock input. The sampling clock determines frequency of analog to digital sampling of the analog input signal by the analog to digital converter. A detector detects first and second different signal portions within a cycle of the cyclically varying input signal. A control processor coupled to the analog to digital converter and the detector, provides the sampling clock and adaptively determines first and second different frequencies of the sampling clock to be used in sampling within detected corresponding first and second different signal portions of the cyclically varying input signal in response to predetermined information indicating a frequency of a signal component of the cyclically varying input signal in the first signal portion is higher than a frequency of a signal component of the cyclically varying input signal in the second signal portion. Also the first frequency is higher than the second frequency of the first and second different frequencies.

A method comprises detecting a sampling frequency of an analog image signal, generating a set of histograms from samples of pixels from the analog image signal, using the set of histograms to determine whether the detected sampling frequency is substantially equal to a natural sampling frequency of the analog image signal, and sampling the analog image signal at the detected sampling frequency to produce image data. The samples are taken at the detected sampling frequency and at a different sampling phase for each of the histograms, and each histogram is for samples from a single image.

In a method for measuring detected radiation, an analog data signal is converted to a digital data signal having aperiodic data pulses varying with intensity of the analog data signal. A time signal indicative of data intervals is produced. The data pulses are counted. A data count is stored in a start location and a corresponding time value is stored in a start location each time a data pulse occurs until a measured data interval starts. After a next data interval is detected, the data count is stored in an end location and a corresponding time value is stored in an end location when the next data pulse occurs. An average intensity of the detected radiation for the measured data interval is determined from the stored data counts and time values. A CT scanner (10) for measuring detected radiation includes a channel circuit (56), a storage circuit (60), a control circuit (58), and a processor (62).

A method and apparatus for an analog-to-digital video signal converter. The converter is controlled by a clock with controllable frequency and phase for sampling an analog signal. A circuit corrects the clock frequency using a period of a columnar frame differences as a function of columnar location. The sampling clock frequency is changed by an amount dependent on the period of the columnar differences. A second measure of the difference between successive frames is computed for a sequence of clock phases. The frequency of the clock is verified using a characteristic of the second measure. The characteristic can be the ratio of the maximum to the minimum of the second measure over selected clock phases. Other characteristics can be used such as a difference of a maximum and a minimum measure.

Bias controllers are provided which alter a bias control signal so that a bias signal (e.g., a current signal) of an electronic network rapidly responds to increases in the rate-of-change of the network's analog input signal. This enhances the linearity of a system that includes the electronic network. Subsequent decreases in the rate-of-change are sensed and a decrease of the bias control signal is then paced at a rate selected to ignore short-term rate-of-change variations (e.g., modulation variations) but follow longer-term rate-of-change reductions to thereby enhance system efficiency without sacrificing system linearity.
