The method includes the use of a membrane in an ultrafiltration process to separate non-digestible oligosaccharides from protein, while retaining isoflavones and saponins with protein. The soy protein concentrate with a low non-digestible oligosaccharide and high isoflavone and saponin content is useful as a milk substitute and in drink mixes as well as an ingredient in other nutrition and health products.

    摘要: A non-fat creamer composition that contains from about 10% to about 90%, of a microparticulated protein component and from about 10% to about 90%, of a insoluble microcrystalline cellulose component. In the hydrated state the microparticulated protein component particles have a mean diameter particle size distribution ranging from about 0.1 microns to about 10.0 microns, and preferably less than about 5 percent of the total number of particles exceed about 10.0 microns in diameter. Further, the creamer composition contains less than about 2% of fat and oil. These non-fat creamer compositions can be powdered and liquid, dairy and non-dairy, and can be prepared in both concentrated and ready-to-use forms. The powdered creamer compositions are well suited for use in instant and/or dry food and beverage compositions that require the addition of water or other suitable fluids prior to use.

    摘要: The present invention relates to cartilage extracts and to a method of producing the same. Shark cartilage extracts having anti-angiogenic, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory and anti-collagenolytic activities have been obtained by an improved process. The process comprises the steps of obtaining a crude cartilage extract in an aqueous solution, this crude extract being fractionated to recover molecules of a molecular weight less than about 500 kDa. Some of the biologically active components of the extract are prepared by further fractionation. The cartilage extract can be used for treating diseases or conditions having etiological components selected from the group consisting of tumor proliferation, angiogenesis, inflammation, metalloprotease activity and collagenolysis. Several cosmetic applications based on the capacity of the liquid extract to improve skin conditions are also disclosed. A simple and efficient process for the preparation of cartilage extracts is also disclosed.

    摘要: An improved process for the purification of antibodies from human plasma or other sources is disclosed. The process involves suspension of the antibodies at pH 3.8 to 4.5 followed by addition of caprylic acid and a pH shift to pH 5.0 to 5.2. A precipitate of contaminating proteins, lipids and caprylate forms and is removed, while the majority of the antibodies remain in solution. Sodium caprylate is again added to a final concentration of not less than about 15 mM. This solution is incubated for 1 hour at 25null C. to effect viral inactivation. A precipitate (mainly caprylate) is removed and the clear solution is diluted with purified water to reduce ionic strength. Anion exchange chromatography using two different resins is utilized to obtain an exceptionally pure IgG with subclass distribution similar to the starting distribution. The method maximizes yield and produces a gamma globulin with greater than 99% purity. The resin columns used to obtain a high yield of IgG, retain IgM and IgA, respectively. IgA and IgM may be eluted in high yield and purity.
