The inhibitor of Hepatitis B virus and HIV activity according to the present invention comprises a Lentinus edodes mycelium extract obtained by the steps of inoculating Lentinus edodes fungus in a solid culture medium comprising bagasse, then disentangling the solid culture medium containing the proliferated mycelium, adding water and at least one enzyme selected from a group consisting of cellulase, protease and glucosidase to the disentangled solid culture medium with keeping the solid culture medium at 30 to 50° C., grinding and milling the solid culture medium in the presence of the enzyme to obtain a Lentinus edodes mycelium extract, and then heating the extract to a temperature of not higher than 95° C. to inactivate the enzyme and sterilize the extract.

Methods for diagnosis of malignancy associated changes (MAC) using Automated Quantitative Cytometry (AQC) and treatment using compositions, extracts and compounds comprising botanical extracts. Use of such compounds in the prevention and therapy of cancer diagnosed by the AQC MAC test are also provided as well as methods for treatment using the compositions of this invention. Compositions comprising therapeutically effective amounts of two or more of an extract of Ganoderma lucidum, an extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza and an extract of Scutellaria barbata and optionally a therapeutically effective amount of an extract of Hippophae rhamnoides are provided. Novel synergistic effects of the use of these compounds in combination therapy are disclosed. Compositions further comprising therapeutically effective amounts of at least one chemotherapeutic agent are also provided.

A composition is prepared by extracting and isolating phytochemical fractions from plant matter for treatment of cancer and especially for breast, prostate, skin, colon, urinary and bladder cancer. The composition is enriched preferably with two or more different phytochemical fractions, namely, isoflavones, lignans, saponins and saponogenins, catechins, and phenolic acids. The two selected fractions are different from each other and are combined specifically to form a composition to treat cancer.
