A chlorine dioxide gas generating kit includes a gas generating apparatus having a first reaction component contained therein and a second reaction component contained therein. The first and second reaction components are separated within the apparatus by at least one rupturable membrane. To activate the apparatus, the at least one rupturable membrane is ruptured to permit contact between the first and second reaction components to facilitate a chemical reaction therebetween which produces chlorine dioxide gas. The apparatus is adapted for releasing chlorine dioxide gas produced therein. To inhibit the unintended rupturing of the membrane, the kit also includes a substantially rigid receptacle defining an internal cavity sized and shaped for receiving at least a portion of the apparatus to inhibit flexing and bending of the apparatus. Before activating the apparatus, the apparatus is removed from the receptacle.

A power monitor is adapted to produce a first signal indicative of the low frequency power applied to the plasma within the vacuum chamber. A power control module is adapted to produce a second signal in response to the first signal from the power monitor, and a power controller is adapted to adjust, in response to the second signal, the low frequency power applied to the plasma to maintain a substantially stable average low frequency power applied to the plasma while the article is being processed.

A reforming catalyst is carried on a surface of a partition on the side of the processed gas flow passage. If raw gas including hydrocarbon fuel is supplied to the fuel reforming apparatus and filtered by the filtering member, soot included in the raw gas is trapped by gaps in the partition, and the hydrocarbon fuel is reformed into reformed gas including hydrogen and carbon monoxide on the reforming catalyst. By increasing the amount of air supplied from a blower at intervals of time, the soot trapped by the partition is removed by combustion.
