    摘要: Bulk pieces of graphite bonded with a graphitizable binder comprising a lid crystalline component of pitch, which softens at about 240.degree. C. and becomes very fluid at about 300.degree. C. to about 500.degree. C. The bonded graphite pieces appear as a monolithic material even under 1000.times. magnification. The bonding is effected under vacuum or in an inert atmosphere at temperatures of from about 700.degree. C. to about 3000.degree. C., usually about 1000.degree. C. to about 1500.degree. C., under pressure of from about 20 psi to about 1000 psi applied in a direction normal to the bonding surface.

    摘要: This invention relates to a method for applying preformed cellular glass insulation blocks to the exterior surface of a spherical metallic storage vessel by the steps of:(a) cleaning the exterior surface of the vessel;(b) maintaining the vessel at a temperature of 80.degree.-100.degree. F.;(c)(1) beveling the side walls of a preformed cellular glass insulation block,(2) dishing the inner surface of the preformed block to correspond to the contour of the spherical vessel to which the block is to be adhered,(3) applying uncatalyzed urethane-modified asphalt adhesive stored at 35.degree.-50.degree. F. just prior to use to the thus dished inner surface and beveled edges of the cellular glass block to completely fill the dished surface,(4) spraying the thus-applied urethane-modified asphalt adhesive with a curing agent, and(5) pressing the block against the surface of the vessel whereby adhesive oozes from between the block and the surface of the vessel; and(d) repeating steps of (c) with successive blocks, each of which is butted firmly against adjacent previously-applied blocks, until the entire surface of the vessel is covered.

    摘要: A pressure-sensitive adhesive is disclosed which is prepared by hot melt blending paving grade asphalt, a depolymerized virgin rubber, a terpene resin, and a vulcanizable, non-depolymerized styrene-butadiene copolymer. These adhesives are especially useful in forming membranes by coating one side of an asphaltic based coated reinforcement with these adhesives. They are useful for highway repair and maintenance purposes and for waterproofing and show good adhesion to cementitious, for example asphaltic concrete or Portland cement concrete, substrates.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for assembling tubing to a supporting and heat exchanging wall for heat transfer therebetween by which the tubing is prepostioned on the wall and held by a releasable holding force until an adhesive or cementitious binder material permanently secures the tubing to the wall with sufficient strength to retain the tubing in the desired position after removal of the holding force. In refrigeration apparatus, evaporator tubing may be assembled on the exterior walls of a boxlike liner by temporarily holding it in position with a magnetic field provided by a magnet carrying male fixture formed to fit the interior of the liner, coating the liner exterior and tubing with a binder such as by dipping it in a molten thermoplastic and allowing the thermoplastic to set by cooling, and removing the male fixture.

    摘要: A method of weather-proofing surfaces, particularly concrete roofs, is described wherein first applied is an inner layer of a soft asphalt (bitumen) having a softening point of 100.degree.-140.degree. F. and including reinforcing fibers, and then an overlying layer of an asphalt-saturated-felt. In one preferred example, the overlying layer is a glass-fiber mat saturated with a hard air-blown asphalt having a softening point of at least 180.degree. F.; and in a second described example, it is paper saturated with soft (non-blown) asphalt and coated on its outer faces with the hard air-blown asphalt. The combination of the soft asphalt inner layer and the asphalt-saturated-felt outer layer has been found to produce a barrier impermeable to water travelling inwardly, but permeable to vapor travelling outwardly thereby avoiding the formation of blisters. This combination has been further found to be suitable for surfaces having extremely high slopes, even perfectly vertical surfaces, without the need for mechanical fastening devices.

It comprises a base sheet of a sheet-like material, one or more bitumen layers coated on all or part of one or both faces of the base sheet, at least one layer of compound bitumen including both bitumen and rubber and/or resin laminated on all or part of the surface of said bitumen-coated layer on the base sheet and at least one release sheet laid over the whole surface of said compound bitumen layer.This roofing membrane is produced by uniting the bitumen-coated base sheet and the compound bitumen-coated release sheet, and can be applied over a substrate in a simple manner, without the step of melting or liquefying bitumen as in the conventional application process.
