    摘要: A transaxle unit comprises a differential assembly having a differential mechanism, a power take-off unit and a torque-coupling device for selectively restricting differential rotation of a differential mechanism. The torque-coupling device includes a friction clutch assembly for selectively frictionally engaging and disengaging a differential case and one of output axle shafts and a hydraulic clutch actuator. The hydraulic clutch actuator includes a hydraulic pump and a variable pressure relief valve assembly fluidly communicating with the hydraulic pump to selectively control a hydraulic pressure generated by the hydraulic pump. The variable pressure relief valve assembly comprises a valve closure member, a valve seat complementary to the valve closure member and an electro-magnetic actuator for engaging the valve closure member and generating a variable electro-magnetic force urging selectively vary a release pressure of the pressure relief valve assembly based on a magnitude of an electric current supplied to the electro-magnetic actuator.

    摘要: The invention provides an automatic powershifting vehicle transfer case comprising a housing supporting a rotatably driven input shaft, a first output shaft rotatably coupled to one of the front or rear axles of a vehicle, and a second output shaft rotatably coupled to the other of the front or rear axles. A first planetary gear set has a first high speed range operating position, where torque from the input shaft is transferred to one or both of the front or rear axles of the vehicle with no speed reduction from planetary operation. The first planetary gear set includes a sun gear connected to rotate with the input shaft, a ring gear, and pinion gears supported in a carrier, with the planetary gear set being drivingly coupled to at least one of the output shafts. A first clutch associated with the first planetary gear set provides a predetermined output drive ratio to one or both of the output shafts. A second planetary differential gear set is associated with the first output shaft and has second clutch associated therewith to control torque transfer to the second output shaft in four-wheel drive modes of operation. The rotational speed of the first and second output shafts can be monitored, and the second clutch can be actuated to selectively lock the second planetary differential if there is a predetermined difference in rotational speeds between the first and second output shafts. Operation of the clutch is automatically effected such that torque received at the input shaft is selectively transferred to drive the first and second output shafts in a predetermined manner. Four-wheel drive modes are provided by a front output clutch assembly which selectively transfer torque to the front output shaft.

    摘要: A motor vehicle transfer case includes an interaxle differential driven by an input shaft and an electromagnetic synchronizer and brake for synchronizing and braking rotation of the input and secondary output shaft. An electromagnetic coil is mounted within the transfer case about the input shaft and surrounded by a freely rotatable rotor. A circular armature is coupled to a chain drive sprocket adjacent the rotor and the electromagnetic coil. The chain drive sprocket is driven by the secondary output of the interaxle differential, the other output of which drives the primary transfer case output. Energization of the electromagnetic coil attempts to synchronize and brake rotation of the input shaft and the chain drive sprocket and secondary driveline and maintains the slack or lash in the driveline in a constant state to eliminate noise and driveline transients.

    摘要: A rotatable drive mechanism is disclosed for a power generating apparatus 5. The drive mechanism provides a link between an electrical generator 20 and a turbine 10, for example a wind or water turbine. In use the turbine 10 rotates at variable speed and the rotatable drive mechanism produces a fixed speed output to generator 20. The drive mechanism includes a differential gearbox 16 which has two output shafts; one driving the generator 20 via shaft 26 and another driving an electric machine 30 via gearing 18. In use, a varying reaction torque provided by the electric machine 30 can be used to control the torque and speed at the output shaft 26. The input torque from the turbine 10 is measured at a reaction point of the gearbox 16 and this measurement is used to alter the reaction torque provided by the electric machine 30. In use the electric machine 30 is operated so that the inertia in the gearbox 18 and the inertia of the electric machine 30 is negated, to provide an almost instantaneous change in the reaction torque and thereby to more effectively control the speed of the output shaft 26.
