More particularly this invention relates to radiation curable compositions comprising a vinyl ether compound which is free of silicon atoms, a cationic photoinitiator, a free radical photoinitiator, and dodecylphenol. The radiation curable compositions of this invention are useful for coating a thin layer film that has potential for many applications in the coating industry.

A method of production of an ether compound from an acetal compound or a ketal compound which is excellent in conversion and selectivity and does not cause corrosion of apparatuses and a novel useful polyvinyl ether compound as lubricating oil for compression-type refrigerators, electric insulation oil and the like are disclosed. The method of production of the present invention comprises reaction of an acetal compound or a ketal compound with hydrogen in the presence of a solid catalyst having acidic property and hydrogenation ability to produce the corresponding ether compound. The polyvinyl ether compound of the present invention comprises the constituting unit expressed by the general formula: ##STR1## (characters in the general formula are the same as those described in the specification), contains none of unsaturated bond, acetal structure and aldehyde structure in the molecule and has weight average molecular weight in the range of 300 to 3000.

In certain embodiments, novel copolymers comprising a least one polymeric branch or polymeric block with a predominantly alternating monomer sequence are described. Additionally, novel copolymers comprising a least one polymeric branch or polymeric block with a predominantly periodic monomer sequence are also described. The present invention relates to electrode membranes which comprise an ion-exchange material forming a core zone, with electrodes bonded thereto on both sides, the ion exchange material being formed from homopolymers soluble in solvents, or copolymers or mixtures thereof. The polymers must have at least one residue dissociable in ions. The electrode material is connected on either side of the core zone to the ion-exchange material to form an intimate contact between the electrode and the ion exchange materials, while the external sides of the electrode are pure electrode material. The electrode membranes are useful for forming fuel cells or electrolyzers.

A process is disclosed for the preparation of liquid and aqueous solutions of amorphous colorless poly (vinyl methyl ether) polymer with low level of impurities from purified vinyl methyl ether. The polymer has relatively high molecular weight, narrow molecular weight distribution and does not degrade readily due to the presence of impurities. The purification of the monomer uses a procedure selected from the group consisting of a vapor-liquid separation, a solid-liquid separation and combinations thereof to remove the impurities at a temperature within the range of from -20.degree. C. to +30.degree. C. The aqueous solution is prepared by devolitilization of solvent solutions of the polymerized purified vinyl methyl ether monomer. The solid polymer is prepared by heating the aqueous solution of the poly(vinyl methyl ether). The amorphous polymers of poly(vinyl methyl ether) are particularly suited for adhesive applications.
