    摘要: A variable capacitor and method of varying capacitance in which two pressurally engaged plates having electrically conductive patterns on facing surfaces are separated by a low friction polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon.TM.) dielectric disk so that the plates may be rotated relative to one another to vary capacitance. Each of the facing surfaces of the plates include two spaced semicircular patterns, one that is electrically connected to the capacitor and one that is not, for maintaining the separation of the plates from the disk. The dielectric disk may be ten to twenty times thicker than the semicircular patterns.

    摘要: An insulating frame is formed by an insert mold such that a portion of a stator lead member is exposed from and flush with the upper surface thereof. The exposed portion of the stator lead member is plated with a metal having a low melting temperature, and the upper surface of the insulating frame is coated with an adhesive. Then, a ceramic dielectric body, which is provided at its lower side with a stator electrode, is placed on the adhesive layer. Subsequently, heat is applied to the ceramic dielectric body and the insulating frame while pressing them to each other so that the metal of the low melting point is molten to electrically connect the stator electrode and the stator lead member. The assembly is then cooled to solidify the metal of the low melting point, as well as the adhesive. Since the ceramic dielectric body is fixed to the frame by means of the adhesive, the steps of grinding and polishing of the stator electrode is eliminated advantageously.

    摘要: A pressure-sensing capacitor and a method for trimming the capacitor is disclosed. The capacitor includes a pair of spaced flexible quartz plates. A thin circular layer of conductive metal is formed on the opposing inner surfaces of the plates to define the electrodes of the capacitor. A glass frit sealing compound, forming a concentric ring about the conductive layers, is disposed between the plates to seal the evacuated space between the plates. The thickness of the ring is small enough so that the capacitance between the electrodes is higher by an unknown amount than the desired value of capacitance at every point in the range of variation of the value of pressure. The capacitor is trimmed by first measuring the capacitance value at zero pressure. In two of the embodiments disclosed the capacitance value at a maximum pressure is also measured. The dimensions and location of a path on one of the electrodes is computed from a measured capacitance value(s) and the deflection characteristics of the plates. Radiant energy in the form of a laser beam is applied to the electrode to cut through the electrode along the computed path to electrically insulate a first part of the layer from a second part of the layer so that the value of capacitance at zero pressure is substantially equal to the desired value.

    摘要: A variable capacitor is provided wherein a reinforcing plate is utilized in the rotor assembly in order to increase the range of the capacitor. The capacitor includes the stator plate and first electrode, the stator plate supporting a lead pin and a rotor positioning member, the rotor positioning member being rotatably mounted thereon. The rotor positioning member rotatably supports a uniformly thick rotor assembly in rotatable friction contact with the stator plate and first electrode. The rotor assembly includes a dielectric, a second capacitor electrode and a reinforcing plate, the thickenss of the dielectric determining the minimum value of capacitance of the variable capacitor. The rotor assembly also includes a fixed spring secured to the positioning member, the lead pin and fixed spring being adapted to facilitate use of variable capacitor in small-size electronic instrumentation.
