Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide a system, apparatus and methods for underwater voice communication by a diver to other divers and surface ships. In many embodiments, the system includes a mouthpiece voice communication apparatus having a microphone for sensing the diver's voice and an acoustic transducer that conducts sound via conduction through the diver's teeth and skull to the cochlea so as to allow the diver to hear sounds. The mouthpiece is adapted to be easily attached to portions of a SCUBA or other underwater breathing apparatus. It may also be attached to or integral with a snorkel or similar apparatus.
Abstract:
A standard Clip Information ("CLPI") file is pre-defined for use in a Blu-ray environment. The CLPI file is structured to specify a set of parameters that are determined independent of any particular content segment. A content segment is structured to conform to the standard CLPI file, including to the set of parameters. The standard CLPI file is used to stream the content segment to the Blu-ray player.
Abstract:
Embodiments described include a non-polymeric voltage switchable dielectric (VSD) material comprising substantially of a grain structure formed from only a single compound, processes for making same, and applications for using such non-polymeric VSD materials.
Abstract:
A mobile computing device formed from at least two housing segments that can be moved between positions, including an open position that fully exposes a display surface or facade of each of the housing segments, and a closed position in which at least one of the facades or display surfaces is occluded or overlaid by the other housing segment, according to at least some embodiments.
Abstract:
A system and method are described for enabling transportation to be arranged for individuals carrying handsets or mobile devices. In some embodiments, a customer can transmit a request for transport from a given customer geographic location. A service may handle the request by selecting a driver for the customer.
Abstract:
An inductive signal interface comprises a coil assembly including one or more inductive coils, a bridge circuit including a plurality of switches, and control circuitry. The control circuitry is configured to individually operate the plurality of switches to enable the inductive signal interface to dynamically switch between a power-transmit mode and a power receive mode.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide apparatus and methods for the detection and treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). An embodiment of an apparatus for the detection and treatment of AF comprises an electrical lead having proximal and distal portions. The distal portion is positionable in an atrial chamber with a proximal portion end coupled to a pacemaker. The lead includes a plurality of conductive wires clad with an insulative coating and has sufficient flexibility to be positioned in the atria from a percutaneous or other introductory site. The conductive wires are coupled to a plurality of pairs of bipolar electrodes positioned on a membrane attachable to the heart wall. The electrode pairs are distributed in a pattern defining an area for detecting the location of a foci of aberrant electrical activity and sending a pacing signal to that location to prevent or stop an AF occurrence caused by the foci.
Abstract:
A method for determining a bandwidth of a network system. A first device in the network transmits a plurality of test data during a first interval of time. A second device in the network receives an amount of the transmitted test data, wherein the amount of the test data received by the second device is less than a total amount of the test data transmitted by the first device during the first interval of time. The bandwidth of the network is then determined based on the amount of the test data that is received by the second device.
Abstract:
A computing device operates a plurality of messaging programs that use different messaging transports. The computing device includes processing resources that operate to provide a messaging database that interfaces with the plurality of messaging programs to record instances of incoming or outgoing messages using anyone of the plurality of messaging programs. The processing resources execute in connection with maintaining the messaging database in order to associate individual incoming messages or outgoing messages with either a new messaging thread or an existing messaging thread. The incoming messages and outgoing messages of each new or existing messaging thread being received or sent through any one of the plurality of messaging programs, so that the messaging threads can be mixed in the type of messages that are provided.
Abstract:
According to one or more embodiments, a variation is detected in light that is cast over a display interface of a computing device. A characteristic of the light variation is identified. From this characteristic, a determination is made as to whether the variation in light is to be interpreted as an input or to be ignored.
