摘要:
A multilayer composite includes adjacent filler layers having a filler material dispersed within a first polymeric matrix and an intervening-layer disposed between the adjacent filler layers. The intervening-layer comprises nanoplatelets embedded within a second polymeric matrix and are aligned substantially parallel to the adjacent filler layers. The intervening-layer is configured to fail upon application of a force to the multilayer composite that is greater than or equal to a predetermined force threshold.

The disclosure features, among other things, polypeptides comprising a Cryptic polypeptide, a functional fragment thereof, or variants of any of the foregoing. Also featured are nucleic acids encoding the polypeptides, methods for producing of the polypeptides, and a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic applications in which the polypeptides are useful. For example, the polypeptides can be used to treat a subject having a condition associated with bone loss.

A method is provided in which pretreated and densified cellulosic biomass particulates can hydrolyzed at a high solids loading rate as compared with the solids loading rate of loose hydrolysable cellulosic biomass fibers. The resulting high concentration sugar-containing stream can be easily converted to biofuels or an entire suite of other useful bioproducts.
摘要:
The invention relates to nucleic acids encoding a p-coumaroyl-CoA:monolignol transferase and to inhibitory nucleic acids adapted to inhibit the expression and/or translation of a p-coumaroyl-CoA:monolignol transferase RNA. Inhibition of p-coumaroyl-CoA:monolignol transferase in plants improves the incorporation of monolignol ferulates into the lignin of plants, giving rise to plant biomass that is more easily processed into useful products such as paper and biofuels.
摘要:
The invention relates to methods and compositions for treating or inhibiting infection of Clostridium difficile. The methods and compositions generate rapid immune responses that inhibit future infection, and/or neutralize the toxicity caused by C. difficile infection.

An adaptive laser system for ophthalmic use is provided. In another aspect, a relatively inexpensive laser is employed. In another aspect of the present system, non-linear optical imaging uses multiphoton fluorescences and/or second harmonic generation, to create three-dimensional mapping of a portion of the eye in combination with automated feedback to assist with a surgical operation. In a further aspect of the present system, the patient interface uses laser induced markings or indicia to aid in focusing and/or calibration. Still another aspect employs temporal focusing of the laser beam pulse.
摘要:
A method of producing an alkyl ester of a carboxylic acid is provided, the method comprising: adding an alkanol and a mineral acid to a carboxylic acid salt to provide a carboxylic acid/alkanol solution and a precipitated mineral acid salt; separating the mineral acid salt from the carboxylic acid/alkanol solution; esterifying the carboxylic acid; and isolating an alkyl ester of the carboxylic acid.
摘要:
The present inventions relate to compositions and methods for treating inflammatory diseases and cancer by administering proteasome inhibitors. In particular, the present inventions provide a new class of orally available non-covalent proteasome inhibitors capable of reducing NF-kappaB for mediating cytokine production in vivo. Further, the use of a small molecular weight inhibitor of the 26S proteasome via a non-covalent type inhibition is contemplated for use as a means to treat NF -kB mediated diseases, including but not limited to multiple myeloma and rheumatoid arthritis.
