Abstract: The present invention provides a system and process providing variable access to, as well as quick and accurate dispensing of, numerous selected reagents from a mass storage arrangement. According to one embodiment, an array of reagent dispensers is supported over a movable platform assembly. The platform assembly aligns a designated receiving receptacle under a selected dispenser of the array so that a respective reagent can be dispensed therein. The dispensers in the matrix have a gate at the lower outlet region. The reagents can be in fluid or solid form, such as beads for solid phase synthesis. Advantageously, the apparatus and process can be carried out under the control of a programmed computer.

Abstract: An oligo peptide synthesis apparatus comprises a housing and a drive motor mounted in the housing and having an output shaft. The oligo peptide synthesis apparatus further comprises an oligo peptide synthesis reaction holder defining a centre line and comprising a number of receptors for receiving a corresponding number of vessels. The receptors are located on a first circle having its centre on the centre line. The holder has a coupling for connecting the holder to the drive motor, the holder being journalled horizontally and rotatably relative to the housing for stepwise revolving around the centre line relative to the housing powered by the drive motor. The oligo peptide synthesis apparatus further comprises a number of synthesis material lines supported relatively to the housing, each of the lines communicating with a supply container and each of the lines defining a discharge end. The discharge ends are positioned on a second circle having its centre on the centre line for allowing a specific discharge end to be positioned above a specific vessel received in the holder.

Abstract: A system for storing and dispensing a plurality of vessels (54). The system includes an array of storage silos (44) or passages operable to store the plurality of vessels (54) where the storage silos have a dispensing end and a reloading end. A retrieval robot (22) is positioned adjacent to the dispensing end of the array of storage silos and is operable to retrieve at least one vessel (54) from at least one silo (44) in the array of storage silos. Abstract: A system and method for dispensing pico-liter amounts of fluid through a mechanical nozzle using a magnetostrictive device that changes dimensions under an applied magnetic field. This device, with the possible help of a bias magnet, can be used to open and close the end of a fluid dispensing nozzle. An X-Y positioner can position a slide beneath the nozzle to produce a micro-array of fluid spots. The magnetostrictive nozzle can dispense fluid quantities as low as 50 pico-liters and operate at a rate of up to 10 kHz.
