A substantially homogeneous particle mixture is disclosed. The mixture includes a plurality of derivatized nanodiamond particles comprising a plurality of first functional groups. The mixture also includes a plurality of microdiamond particles, wherein the derivatized nanodiamond particles and microdiamond particles comprise a substantially homogeneous particle mixture. The mixture may also include a plurality of third particles comprising nanoparticles not identical to the derivatized nanodiamond particles, or a plurality of microparticles not identical to the microdiamond particles, or a combination thereof, and the derivatized nanodiamond particles, derivatized microdiamond particles and third particles comprise the substantially homogeneous particle mixture.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a polymer compound comprising a ceramic powder and a polymer, whereby the ceramic powder comprises a specific surface of greater than 1.8.10 m /m and amounts to greater than 5 vol.-% of the polymer compound. The polymer is resistant to shearing force and the pore sizes in the polymer compound range from 3-15 nm. In addition, the invention relates to a method for producing this polymer compound, to the use thereof and to a sintered compact produced therefrom.

The invention relates to a stable aqueous dispersion of particles which can be flocculated by increasing the temperature to a value above the transition temperature. The invention is characterized in that the dispersion comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl methyl ether and a block copolymer of polyvinyl methyl ether and a polyvinyl ether, the ether group bonded to the main chain via the oxygen atom being adsorbed onto the surface of the particles. The invention also relates to a block polymer of the above-mentioned type and to a method of manufacturing such a block copolymer. The invention enables very fine powders of ceramic particles having a very high homogeneity to be obtained.
Abstract:
Methods of making ceramic matrix prepregs are described. The methods include exposing a coated tow of ceramic fibers to a ceramic matrix slurry comprising a solvent and ceramic precursor. The coating is at least partially removed and the slurry infuses into the ceramic fibers to form prepreg. Steps to form ceramic matrix composites are also described, including forming the prepreg into a green body, and sintering the ceramic precursor.

A ceramic honeycomb substrate for use in an automotive catalytic converter system which exhibits improved light-off performance by virtue of a high porosity of 45 to 75 % while still maintaining a wall thickness of greater than 2.0 mil (0.0020 inch, 0.0508 mm), preferably 2.5 mil (0.0025 in., 0.0635 mm) to 7 mil (0.0070 in., 0.1778 mm), and more preferably 2.5 mil (0.0025 in., 0.0635 mm) to 3 mil (0.0030 in., 0.0762 mm). The median pore size is in the range of 2-10 micrometers, and a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) (25-800°C) of less than 15 x 10-7/°C.
