The present invention also provides methods of identifying inhibitors (e.g., small molecule, nucleic acid (e.g., siRNA), and antibody) of RNAi regulators and methods of using the same (e.g., to enhance RNAi). Compositions and methods of the present invention find use in research (e.g., functional genomics), therapeutic (e.g., drug discovery and delivery) and clinical applications.

In vitro culture of the venom gland cells of Pseudomyremex triplarinus is effected by removing venom gland tissue from a larva or pupa of P. triplarinus subjecting the tissue to a protease to separate out the cells therein and culturing the resultant cells in an isotonic salin medium comprising carbohydrate, amino acids guanosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate and adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphoric acid, at least part of the medium having been conditioned with Spodoptera frugiperda cells. Such in vitro culture provides a practicable route to volume production of the biologically active materials which are useful fortreating the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and which the venom gland cells are known to produce.

More specifically, the invention refers to a process for the production of the line IBU/ASE-16 and their use for obtaining extracts for the production of vaccines and candidate recombinant proteins for biopharmaceuticals and acaricides, production of diagnostic kits for the detection of antigens and/or antibodies for animal and human use, obtaining clones for use in genotyping and use as a substrate for the isolation and culture of pathogens.
