PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize fuel consumption quantity per fixed traveling distance of total used fuel, namely discharged CO 2 quantity per fixed traveling distance. SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine, a SO x trap catalyst 11, an aftertreatment device which consists of a particulate filter 13 carrying NO x storage reduction catalyst and an NO x storage reduction catalyst 15, and a fuel supply valve 17 for supplying the aftertreament device with fuel for aftertreatment are arranged in an engine exhaust passage. A value of operation parameter of the engine and a method for supplying fuel for aftertreatment are reset to minimize fuel consumption quantity of total fuel of fuel for combustion and fuel for aftertreatment while maintaining quantity of noxious component discharged to atmospheric air to regulation value or less whenever operation period of the engine passes fixed period of time. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent emission increase of NOx by monitoring whether or not the necessary amount of a liquid reducing agent is correctly injected and supplied. SOLUTION: A liquid level L0 in a reducing agent tank is measured when a key switch is turned on (S1) and a travel distance D1 after the turning-on of the key switch is measured from a travel distance odometer (S2). It is judged whether or not the travel distance D1 becomes equal to or larger than a predetermined travel distance D0 (S3) and when it becomes equal to or larger than the predetermined travel distance D0, a liquid level L1 in the reducing agent tank is checked (S4). It is judged whether or not a consumption of urea aqueous solution ▵L measured from a variation of the liquid level (L0-L1) is within a predetermined range (Lmin ≤ ▵L ≤ Lmax) (S5). Abnormality in injection of the urea aqueous solution is judged when the consumption of urea aqueous solution is not within the predetermined range and abnormality judgment output is generated and notified to occupants (S6). PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas postprocessing system and a control method thereof.SOLUTION: The exhaust gas postprocessing control method includes the steps of: performing desulfurization regeneration by raising the temperature of a catalyst to a preset vale when a temperature difference (ΔT) between the front and rear ends of the catalyst in injecting a reducing agent is a reference temperature difference (X) or less; determining whether fuel has been replenished after desulfurization regeneration; determining whether an operation distance, fuel consumption or an operation time after desulfurization regeneration have exceeded a reference value; and determining that high sulfur fuel has been injected when the ΔT in injecting the reducing agent is X or less while determining that the fuel has been replenished without exceeding a reference value in the operation distance, the fuel consumption or the operation time after desulfurization regeneration. The exhaust gas postprocessing system includes a catalyst, a detecting part and a control part for executing a program for regenerating the catalyst according to a state of a vehicle detected by the detecting part.
