Abstract: Described herein is method of adding a non-fluorinated carbon-carbon double bond to a highly fluorinated polymer via an amidine linkage. In one embodiment, the derivatized fluorinated polymer comprising a highly fluorinated polymer backbone with pendent groups therefrom is disclosed, wherein at least one pendent group is according to the formula: (I) where Rf is a bond or a divalent perfluorinated group, optionally comprising at least one in-chain ether linkage, R is H, an alkyl group, or —CH(R″)X; R′ is H or an alkyl group; X is a monovalent group comprising at least one non-fluorinated carbon-carbon double bond; and R″ is H or an alkyl group. Such derivatized fluorinated polymers may be used in curable compositions and articles therefrom.

Abstract: Methods of making components for a medicinal delivery device are described, in which a primer composition comprising a silane having two or more reactive silane groups separated by an organic linker group is applied to a surface of a component, then a coating composition comprising an at least partially fluorinated compound is applied to the primed surface. The surface may be a polymer surface. Corresponding coated components and a medicinal delivery device are disclosed. Methods of making metal components are described in which a coating composition comprising an at least partially fluorinated compound is applied to a surface cleaned with a solvent.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a protective coating composition for a hard surface, wherein the composition comprises an organic solvent and a polysiloxane having the general formula (I), wherein: R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 are independently an alkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms; Y and Z are independently a divalent linking group selected from the group consisting of urea, urethane, oxygen atom, sulfur atom and alkylene having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms; A, B, L and M are independently a divalent slinking group selected from the group consisting of alkylene having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, with the proviso that if the combined linking groups formed by -A-Y-L- and -M-Z—B— are independently an alkylene, then the alkylene is independently different from ethylene; n is an integer from 5 to 1500; and m and p are independently an integer from 1 to 3. In another aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a method of reducing contamination from a hard surface.

Abstract: Anti-icing stacks for protecting an aerodynamic surface are described. In some embodiments, an anti-icing stack includes an anti-icing layer, an elastomeric erosion protection layer, and an additional layer. The erosion protection layer is disposed between the anti-icing layer and the additional layer. The additional layer has a thickness greater than the thickness of the erosion protection layer and a tensile modulus of no more than the tensile modulus of the erosion protection layer. The additional layer may be a foam adhesive layer.

Abstract: Described herein is method of functionalizing fluorinated polymers, wherein a reaction compound is grafted onto a fluorinated polymer, wherein the fluorinated polymer comprises at least one Br, I, and Cl group and is free of —CH2CH2— linkages. In one embodiment, the functionalized fluorinated polymer comprises a perfluorinated polymer backbone with pendent groups therefrom is disclosed, wherein at least one pendent group is according to formula I: where Rf is a bond, or a divalent perfluorinated group, optionally comprising at least one in-chain ether linkage; Z is I, Br, or Cl; and X comprises a functional group selected from the group consisting of an alcohol; phosphorous acid and salts thereof; phosphoric acid and salts thereof; a silane; an amine; an amide; a hydrocarbon, optionally comprising an in-chain oxygen, nitrogen, or sulfur linkage; a carboxylic acid and salts thereof; an ester; a sulfonyl fluoride, a sulfonic acid and salts thereof; and combinations thereof. Such functionalized fluorinated polymers may be used in coating compositions.

Abstract: The composition includes a polysiloxane having at least one of a phosphate or phosphonate group and an amino-functional compound having at least one silane group. The method includes treating the metal surface with a composition including a polysiloxane functionalized with at least one of a phosphate or phosphonate group. The method can include first treating the metal surface with a primer composition including an amino-functional compound having at least one silane group or including an amino-functional compound having at least one silane group in the composition with the polysiloxane.
