Abstract: A method of producing an interiorly sterile package possessing superior barrier properties, in which method a package is produced by blow moulding by means of gaseous blow moulding medium, whereafter the blow-moulded package is provided on its inner walls with a coating of a silicon compound by vacuum deposition, the coating acting as a barrier. According to one preferred embodiment of the method, the vacuum deposition is carried out in accordance with conventional chemical plasma deposition by means of a process gas which is identical with the gaseous blow moulding medium employed in the blow moulding operation. As gaseous blow moulding medium and process gas, respectively, use is made of a gas mixture containing oxygen gas and vaporized organic silicon compound, the mixing ratio between the gas components being controlled in such a manner that the coating which is formed in the chemical plasma deposition process consists of a silicon oxide of the general chemical formula SiO.sub.x, where x may vary from between 1,8 and 2,2. The chemical plasma deposition is discontinued when the produced coating has achieved a thickness of less than 2000 .ANG..

Abstract: The edge of an interior lamina or laminae of a laminated sheet or film having three or more laminae is positively encapsulated to protect material enclosed by the laminated sheet or film from contacting and interacting with the edge of the interior lamina or laminae. To encapsulate the interior lamina or laminae, the edge of the laminated sheet or film is heated and the molten outer laminae are mechanically forced out and over the interior lamina or laminae to be covered, thereby positively encapsulating the edge of the interior lamina or laminae.

Abstract: A process for producing a tubular casing by folding a flat plastic sheet (1) into a tubular structure by a shaping former (6) as the sheet advances, and joining the meeting edges of the folded sheet to form the tubular casing, characterized by forming grooves (13) on one or both sides of the sheet along fold lines, coating a surfactant (12) on the sheet surface at least at the fold line portions of the sheet surface which are to be brought into contact with the shaping former, and then folding the sheet into a tubular structure by the shaping former.

Abstract: The method of producing sheets of reinforced paper comprising printing a hot-melt adhesive at pre-selected positions onto the surface of a continuously moving web of paper. The method also includes cooling the adhesive and cutting and trimming the web into sheets of paper, the adhesive forming the reinforcement at desired positions on the paper. The hot-melt adhesive is preferably a linearic copolyester such as GRILESTA 6505 (GRILESTA is a Registered Trade Mark).

Abstract: A packaging material and a method of forming the packaging material into a flexible, disposable food container adapted to contain and maintain food in a fresh and sanitary condition, and to ship, display, heat and brown, and serve the food is disclosed. The method includes forming patches of microwave interactive material on a web of plastic and laminating the web of plastic to one side of a web of structural stock material to form a composite web; the microwave interactive material is sandwiched between the web of plastic and the web of structural stock material. Sealant is applied to portions of the plastic layer in registry with the patches of microwave interactive material to seal ends of the composite web. Printed graphics are applied to portions of the structural stock material layer in registry with the patches of microwave interactive material and the sealant. The formed container is sufficiently flexible to contain food having curved and irregular surfaces and to maximize contact of the food with the portion of the container housing the microwave interactive material. The container is sealed so that portions of the composite web extend as fins beyond the sealed ends of the food-containing portion of the container. The container also is capable of receiving food before the food is frozen to prevent portions or parts of the food from falling out of their proper place in the food packaging process.

Abstract: A carton construction and method of making an integral cutting edge therefor. An intermittent cut-score line is utilized at the juncture of the front and bottom main panels the cut segments of which extend into the front panel to provide a plurality of discrete teeth for the cutting edge. The end portions of each cut segment terminate approximately at the juncture of the front and bottom panels so that the space between the cut segments provide an axis for folding between the front and bottom panels in erecting the carton. Additionally, the individual teeth are stiffened by applying a coating thereto. The carton blank is formed into an open ended tube and a plurality of these tubes, in flattened condition, are stacked with the cutting teeth uppermost in which position they are coated, such as by a roller coating.
