Abstract: Provided is a steel cord for rubber article reinforcement which has excellent corrosion resistance and productivity without deterioration of adhesion with rubber. A steel cord (1) for rubber article reinforcement, in which plural steel filaments (2) are twisted together, includes: a core having at least one core filament (2c); and a sheath having at least one sheath layer formed by twisting at least one sheath filament (2s) around the core. In this steel cord (1), brass plating is performed on the steel filaments (2) and zinc plating is further performed on the outer circumference of the brass plating of the core filament (2c), and the steel filaments (2) have a diameter d of 0.1 mm to 0.6 mm.

Abstract: A composite twisted wire (1) which is obtained by twisting a plurality of strands. This composite twisted wire (1) includes: an aluminum-covered strand (2) that is obtained by forming a coating film (2b), which is formed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, on the surface of a steel wire (2a); and an aluminum wire (3) that is formed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy. This composite twisted wire is reduced in weight, while exhibiting excellent tensile strength and excellent long-term stability with respect to electrical resistance. Consequently, this composite twisted wire is suitable, for example, for use as a wire harness of automobiles.

Abstract: Multistrand metal cable of 4×(4+M) construction, which can especially be used for reinforcing tire belts for industrial vehicles, formed from four elementary strands assembled in a helix with a helix pitch P3, each elementary strand consisting of a two-layer cable of 4+M construction comprising an inner layer C1 formed from four wires of diameter D1, assembled in a helix with a pitch P1, and an unsaturated outer layer C2 of M wires, M being greater than or equal to 8 and smaller than or equal to 11, of diameter D2, these being assembled in a helix with a pitch P2 around the inner layer C1, P1 being smaller than P2, the four wires of the inner layer C1 being wound in a helix in the same twist direction as the M wires of the outer layer C2, and wherein each of the diameters D1 and D2 is greater than or equal to 0.10 mm but less than or equal to 0.50 mm.

The wires comprise a central king wire (12), a first layer (14) of wires (16) arranged around the king wire, and a second layer (18) of wires (20) arranged around the first layer. The king wire is formed of steel having a carbon content of at least 0.3 wt %. Each wire of the first layer is formed of steel having a carbon content which is less than the carbon content of the king wire. Each wire of the second layer is formed of steel having a carbon content which is greater than, or the same as, the carbon content of the wires of the first layer.

Abstract: A steel cord (20) comprises a plurality of steel filaments (22, 24) arranged in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the steel cord (20) without twisting. The steel cord (20) further comprises a wrapping filament (26) twisted around the steel cord (20). Each of said steel filaments (22, 24) is a flat wire having flat surfaces. The steel filament (24) near the center of the steel cord (20) has a bigger width than the steel filaments (22) further away from the center of the steel cord (20) such that the cross-section of said steel cord (20) approximates an oval shape with the bending stiffness around the shorter axis of the oval shape being greater than the bending stiffness around the longer axis. In a tire, the steel cord being used as a reinforcement, the longer axis being arranged perpendicular to the radial direction of the tire.

Abstract: A steel rope safety system includes at least one steel rope having at least one strand, and the at least one rope or at least one strand is compacted. Further, a method is provided for making a steel rope safety system comprising the step of providing at least two wires, the step of stranding the wires thereby forming a strand for a rope and the step of compacting the strand. The steel rope safety system includes a guardrail system having vertical poles and horizontal compacted ropes which are held in place by hooks. The steel rope safety system may include non-round shaped, such as trapezoidal shaped compacted wires. There is likewise provided the use of compacted steel ropes as impact reducing material.
