In accordance with the invention, there is a method of forming a nanochannel including depositing a photosensitive film stack over a substrate and forming a pattern on the film stack using interferometric lithography. The method can further include depositing a plurality of silica nanoparticles to form a structure over the pattern and removing the pattern while retaining the structure formed by the plurality of silica nanoparticles, wherein the structure comprises an enclosed nanochannel.
Abstract:
Apparatus, systems, and methods to construct and operate a radio frequency self-regenerated locked optical oscillator can be used in a variety of applications. Stable synchronization of an optical oscillator can be achieved by driving an amplitude modulator with a radio frequency (RF) signal regenerated from the cavity of the optical oscillator. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.
Abstract:
Various embodiments provide devices and methods of an optical coupled-cavity photo-acoustic spectroscopy (CC-PAS). The exemplary CC-PAS can include three mirrors configured in parallel to couple a Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity with a sample cavity. The sample cavity can be a resonant cavity for containing a sample. The FP cavity can be used as a tunable input coupler for the sample cavity to improve spectroscopic sensitivities when measuring an absorber in the sample.

A cathode for use in a magnetron may include a plurality of longitudinally oriented emitter regions disposed around a longitudinal axis of the cathode. Each emitter region can be configured to emit electrons and adjacent emitter regions can be separated from one another by openings. The emitter regions can be configured to promote simultaneous cathode priming, magnetic priming, and electrostatic priming.
Abstract:
Isolated polypeptides, nucleic acids, and methods relating to cellular internalization of materials are described herein. Generally, the isolated polypeptides include a membrane transduction domain of human tissue factor pathway inhibitor-2 (TFPI-2). In some cases, the isolated polypeptide can be a fusion peptide that includes a membrane transduction domain of human TFPI-2 and a heterologous peptide domain. The nucleic acids include nucleic acids that encode the isolated polypeptides described herein. The methods generally include providing a composition that includes a membrane transduction domain of human TFPI-2 coupled to a material, and contacting the composition with a cell under conditions effective to permit the cell to internalize the composition.

A dry powder inhaler including a housing defining a chamber for receiving a dose of powdered medicament, an inhalation port in fluid communication with the chamber, at least one airflow inlet providing fluid communication between the chamber and an exterior of the housing, and a flutter element in the chamber and associated with a dose of powdered medicament. The flutter element has a tensioned distal end proximate the at least one airflow inlet and a free proximal end opposite to the distal end and downstream of the inlet. The flutter element is configured to vibrate in response to airflow through the chamber and aerosolize the dose of powdered medicament.
Abstract:
Photocatalytic water splitting is employed as a method to directly obtain clean hydrogen from solar radiation by using hybrid nanoparticles with metallic cores and semiconductor photocatalytic shells. Efficient unassisted overall photocatalytic splitting of water is based on resonant absorption from surface plasmon in metal core/semiconductor shell hybrid nanoparticles, which can extend the absorption spectra further towards the visible-near infrared range, thus dramatically increasing the solar energy conversion efficiency. When used in combination with scintillator nanoparticles, the hybrid photocatalytic nanoparticles can be used for conversion of nuclear energy into hydrogen.

A dry powder inhaler for delivering medicament to a patient includes a housing defining a chamber for receiving a dose of powdered medicament, an inhalation port in fluid communication with the chamber, at least one airflow inlet providing fluid communication between the chamber and an exterior of the housing, and an aeroelastic element in the chamber and associated with a dose of powdered medicament. A tensioning assembly is configured to apply a first amount of tension to the aeroelastic element such that the aeroelastic element is capable of vibrating in response to airflow through the chamber so as to aerosolize the dose of powdered medicament.

A system and methods for continuously communicating data regarding the status of a monitored condition using music, which trained persons can recognize and interpret. One or more data collector devices monitor conditions and provide data regarding the status of the conditions to an analyzing device. The analyzing device receives the data and creates data music that is played on an audio device with reference music establishing the Hierarchal Music Structure (HMS) to the listener. The data music is a musical representation of the data against the reference music, which are played on an audio device.

In accordance with the invention, there are imaging interferometric microscopes and methods for imaging interferometric microscopy using structural illumination and evanescent coupling for the extension of imaging interferometric microscopy. Furthermore, there are coherent anti-Stokes Raman (CARS) microscopes and methods for coherent anti-Stokes Raman (CARS) microscopy, wherein imaging interferometric microscopy techniques are applied to get material dependent spectroscopic information.
