Abstract:
A method for accessing and browsing the interne through the use of a telephone and the associated DTMF signals is disclosed. The preferred embodiment provides a system that converts the information content of a web page from text to speech (voice signals), signals the hyperlink selections of a web page in an audio manner, and allows selection of the hyperlinks through the use of DTMF signals generated from a telephone keypad. Upon receiving a DTMF signal corresponding to a hyperlink, the corresponding web page is fetched and again delivered to the user via one of the available delivery methods such as voice, fax-on-demand, electronic mail, or regular mail.
Abstract:
An image processing apparatus registers voice call destination information and data transmission destination information for a destination in association with each other. The image processing apparatus executes a voice call with the destination using the voice call destination information, and executes, after the voice call, data transmission to the destination using the data transmission destination information in accordance with a data transmission instruction input by the user.
Abstract:
Provided are a facsimile apparatus, a communication apparatus, and a communication method that perform communication using a session established according to a session initiation protocol (SIP). If an INVITE in which a media type is designated as “audio” is received, an INVITE in which a media type is designated as “image” is transmitted. If a success response is made to the transmitted INVITE, an image session is established and facsimile communication or image communication is executed. If an error response is made to the transmitted INVITE, calling processing for calling an operator is started.
Abstract:
Systems and processes for communication of messages between one or more networked objects on circuit and packet data networks are described. Specifically, means for representation of various communication types, including content description and disposition rules, delivery and routing descriptions and rules, conversion and translation descriptions and rules, and methods for interactions and for administration over one or more network types, through one or more communication protocol types, to one or more destination types are described. The delivery of messages and other communication over various communication protocols in addition to email is described. Methods for administering and managing rules for directing and transforming said messages and communications for purposes of routing or delivery to one or more specific destinations are also presented.

Abstract:
System and method for processing communication signals in a communication system having a detector for detecting a parameter of a communication signal. A communication signal is provided to a non-linear processor (NLP) adapted to examine the signal and to decide whether or not to enter an active state based upon a parameter of the signal. If the NLP enters an active state, the NLP performs non-linear processing on the signal. The NLP communicates to the detector whether the NLP is active or inactive. If the NLP is active, a processing step of the detector is disabled.
Abstract:
A signal processing system which discriminates between voice signals and data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier. The signal processing system includes a voice exchange, a data exchange and a call discriminator. The voice exchange is capable of exchanging voice signals between a switched circuit network and a packet based network. The signal processing system also includes a data exchange capable of exchanging data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier on the switched circuit network with unmodulated data signal packets on the packet based network. The data exchange is performed by demodulating data signals from the switched circuit network for transmission on the packet based network, and modulating data signal packets from the packet based network for transmission on the switched circuit network. The call discriminator is used to selectively enable the voice exchange and data exchange.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for minimizing clock drift between un-synchronized clocks which may occur at opposing ends of a communication link established in, for example, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications network, especially for use with, for example, a FAX or modem terminal device. The illustrative system employs two or more clocks, wherein at least one of these clocks operates at an intentionally higher frequency than the nominal clock frequency (e.g., 8 kHz) and wherein at least one of these clocks operates at an intentionally lower frequency than the nominal clock frequency. In operation, the illustrative system alternatively chooses one of the clocks, in order to attempt to match the clock of the far-end terminal device on average. The state and/or history of the receiving device's associated jitter buffer may be advantageously used to determine which clock to select.
Abstract:
A computer readable storage medium holding a program element for execution by a processor for processing voice calls. The program element comprises an input interface to receive at a customer premises a signal carrying a call request indicative of an incoming voice call, wherein the call request includes a call destination identifier. Also present, a processing element at a customer premises coupled to the input interface. The processing element processes the call destination data to distinguish the call destination identifier from other call destination identifiers that the signal can carry. The processing element also processes the call request to select a handset to which the incoming call is to be linked on the basis of the call destination identifier and links the voice call to the handset. Also provided are a telephone system and method and a telephone system and method involving forwarding calls to voice mail services.
