Disclosed herein is a polymer comprising an amorphous syndiotactic rich polyolefin comprising greater than about 50 wt % C3-C40 alpha olefins and having about 50% to less than about 80% r dyads, based on the total number of r and m dyads present in the polymer; a heat of fusion of 10 joules/g or less according to the procedure described in ASTM E 794-85; and an ash content of 1 wt % or less. A functionalized amorphous syndiotactic rich polyolefin is also disclosed, along with methods to produce and a method to use the inventive polymer.

Hyperbranched copolymers comprising at least one C2-C20 &agr;-monoolefin monomers and 0.2 to 20 mole % of at least one &agr;,&ohgr;-non-conjugated diene monomers having 5 to 18 carbon atoms are prepared by coordination (metallocene) copolymerization of the monomers and quenching the reaction prior to the formation of a gelled product. The building blocks of the products are characterized by a number average molecular weight less than 5 times the entanglement molecular weight of a homopolymer prepared using the same catalyst but in the absence of the diene component.

Blends of semi-crystalline polymers with rubbery thermoplastic copolymers are provided. The rubbery thermoplastic copolymers are elastic at temperatures above their Tg's and properties similar to thermoplastic elastomers and surface tensions 5 dynes/cm or more different, preferably greater than the surface tension of the semi-crystalline polymer. Improved properties include good elastic recovery, toughness, and high elasticity without significant loss in optical properties.

The present invention relates to novel compositions of matter comprising fullerenes and polymers, wherein the fullerenes are combined with the polymer in an amount sufficient to result in a change or modification in the viscoelastic properties of the resulting composition from that of the unmodified polymer typically within the range of from about 0.01 wt. % to about 85 wt. %. Also included in the present invention is the process for making the novel fullerene-polymer compositions and the products produced by the process disclosed therein. The novel compositions show changes in the viscoelastic properties in comparison to the unmodified polymer, and hence, have utility in any application in which the unmodified polymer may be used, but wherein the application would benefit from the resulting change in the viscoelastic properties.

A thermoplastic film is provided which is especially suited for use in stretch/cling applications such as, for example, the bundling, packaging and unitizing of foods and other goods. The film comprises a cling layer comprising a polymer of at least ethylene and 2-40 wt % acrylate having a ratio of M.sub.w /M.sub.n less than about 3.5, a ratio of M.sub.z /M.sub.w less than about 3, a melt index of about 0.1-30 dg/min, and a melt index swell ratio less than about 1.6, preferably without a tackifying additive. The film may further comprise a non-cling layer comprising a thermoplastic preferably essentially free of anticling (slip and/or antiblock) additive. Preferred thermoplastic materials include polyethylene and polypropylene.

A thermoplastic film is provided which is especially suited for use in stretch/cling applications such as, for example, the bundling, packaging and unitizing of foods and other goods. The film comprises a cling layer comprising (i) a polymer of at least ethylene and acrylate or vinyl acetate, blended with (ii) a compatible, non-migratory tackifier. The film may further comprise a non-cling layer comprising a thermoplastic material essentially free of tackifier, with or without an anticling (slip and/or antiblock) additive. Preferred thermoplastic materials include linear low density polyethylene and polypropylene.
