Abstract: The invention provides a composite rope (10, 20) and mesh net (50) made therefrom. The composite rope (10, 20) comprises a plurality of outer fibre strands (14, 24) twisted or braided around an inner elongate core (12, 22) so as to provide the rope (10, 20) with increased durability. The inner elongate core (12, 22) extends at least partially in a helical configuration, and may comprise an expanded metal wire core having a helical configuration, alternatively a number of steel or synthetic elongate strands or filaments (26) wound to form a twisted cable in which each strand or filament (26) has a helical configuration. The mesh net (50) comprises a number of lengths of rope (52) knotted together at regular spaced intervals, with the net (50) being stretched and heat set during manufacture, and wherein the mesh net (50) includes at least some lengths of composite rope (10, 20) in accordance with the invention. The invention further provides for methods of using the mesh net (50).

Abstract: Devices and methods for loading a cable in order to create a desired distribution of the load among the cable's constituent strands. Strand terminations are applied to many—and possibly all of—the cable's strands. The ultimate goal is to connect the strand terminations to a collector in order to create an overall cable termination. The relationship between each strand termination and the collector is allowed to “float” using the inventive process while the cable is tensioned and an appropriate spatial relationship between each strand tensioner and the collector is determined. One the appropriate relationship is found, it is configured to be repeatable (such as by locking the strand termination in place or by recording its position for later application to the same or similar collector).

Abstract: A cord material suitable for use in lined textile structures with a gliding component includes a plurality of uniform strands, and a deviant strand. The deviant strand is different from the uniform strands in some characteristic affecting aerodynamic or hydrodynamic properties of the cord, such as size or surface properties. Each uniform strand can have a substantially equal cross section area, while the deviant strand has a cross section area at least five times greater than one of the uniform strands. The strands can be braided or woven together. A major benefit of the material can be that vibration induced drag is significantly reduced or eliminated in lines made with the material. Another advantage is that lines made from the material can have more consistent, predictable line drag, which can improve the quality of handling.

Abstract: A colored suture includes an elongate woven braid of filaments including one or more ends made of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The suture also includes second and third ends which can be colorable or dyeable before or after incorporation into the elongate woven braid. This invention provides surgeons with improved recognition of suture ends in surgery by construction of a hi-colored co-braid with at least two ends of different color schemes or patterns braided into a UHMWPE construction. One of the colored ends runs continuously from one end of the suture to the other end. The other colored end can be colored only on one half of the end. This provides a suture with two distinguishable ends, while still maintaining a continuous line of color along the length of the suture.

Abstract: A mooring loop is provided for use with connecting a mooring line to a bollard. The mooring loop may stretch and function as a time delay fuse when excessive loads are applied to the mooring line. The mooring loop is comprised of a reactive fiber component in the shape of a continuous loop that includes a plurality of at least one of: an undrawn hydrophobic polymer fiber or a substantially undrawn hydrophobic polymer fiber. At least two jackets are in surrounding relation to portions of the reactive fiber component. The at least two jackets include respective end portions which overlap. As the mooring loop stretches, a visual indicator on an end portion of one of the jackets pulls out of and away from the end portion of the other one of the jackets. The visual indicator serves as a warning that excessive loads are being applied to the mooring line.

Abstract: A rope assembly, according to various embodiments, comprises: (1) a braided rope comprising a plurality of braided strands; and (2) a rope fastener that is adapted to: (A) be attached to the braided rope adjacent a first end of the braided rope; (B) allow a user to selectively form a braided rope loop of a first particular circumference by fitting the rope fastener through the plurality of braided strands at a first particular location on the braided rope; and (C) allow a user to selectively form a braided rope loop of a second particular circumference by fitting the rope fastener through the plurality of braided strands at a second particular location on the braided rope. In various embodiments, the rope fastener is shaped for selectively preventing the rope fastener from returning through the plurality of braided strands after the rope fastener has been fitted through the plurality of braided strands.
